Hi Mike,

The 'Roll paper trimming function' will be a usefull addition to my workflow, a real time and paper saver.
I got it to work once and then never again.  Any idea what the problem is?

Qimage Ultimate v2011.105
Win7 64 bit
Epson 9800

Many thanks,

Philip

I'm afraid I have nothing to go on so I'll need some info.  "Never again" doesn't tell me much.  What do you mean?  You try it and it does nothing?  You try it and it does something you don't expect?  What is your setup and how much white space is at the bottom (that you'd expect it to trim)?  Maybe start with a screen shot so I can see what you are doing.

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Mike for the reply.

There really isn't much more I can add by way of explanation, but I will try:

1) I have extra paper length, say 1/3 more than required for the prints on the Preview.
2) I right-click on the preview
3) Select 'Remove White Space at  bottom of Page'

Sometimes this works and removes all of the extra paper.  Very useful indeed!
Sometimes nothing happens:  The preview is redrawn exactly as before (no paper removed).

I have gone through this a number of times looking for a sequence that works/doesn't work but
I haven't been able to associate this behavior with any particular sequence of commands.  It appears
to happen at random...

Thanks again,

Philip

What size paper and other options do you have selected in the driver?  It would be helpful if you could post a screen shot of Qimage's main window when the problem occurs (nothing happens).  Maybe I can replicate looking at your screen.  It might be some quirk with the 9800 driver.  I've tried the R1900, 7600, 3800, 3880, and 9000 and none of them seem to have a problem.  If I can get your screen shot, I'll download the 9800 driver and try to replicate it.

I've downloaded and installed the 9800 driver and have tried the trimming function.  I started out with roll paper and the trim function works every time.  I trim once, then remove a row of prints to expose more white space at the bottom, trim again, repeat, and it always works.  So at this point, I'll need a screen shot showing your full setup.  That way I can set things up to the size you are using, the size images on the page, the same image placement option, etc. and try to get exactly the same conditions.

I wonder though, if you might just be misinterpreting how the function works?  If you have two pages of images, for example, and you are looking at page 2 which has some white space, the trim function might not trim anything if page 1 contains a full page of prints and has no white space.  In other words, for it to trim white space, it has to look at every page and it can only trim white space from the "fullest" page in the job.  Else you'd trim too much and pages would end up getting rearranged, prints pushed to new pages, and potentially more pages created.
