Hello,

I was a long time user and had a lifetime license to Qimage pro. I hadn't been printing anything for quite a few years and came back to download Qimage pro again and found there's a new version now so I downloaded the trial to see if I wanted to purchase again. I am having an issue with the trial version and my old R1800 printer, when I click print to send the job to the printer it will show the print preview and then sends it to the printer when in click print. The issue is that it doesn't appear that Qimage is actually sending any data to the printer with the print job as the progress bar on the print status just instantly completes, the printer loads the paper but never prints anything.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer, software etc and nothing seems to help. I am able to print to the R1800 from every other app on my computer and also I am able to print from Qimage to my laser printer. Any ideas on this one guys? I would really like to get it to work because I miss using Qimage.

Thanks,
Chadd

There may be some old/incompatible settings that Qimage is remembering from the old version.  In Qimage with the R1800 selected, hold the Shift key while you click the "Properties" button on the Printers and Settings tab.  This opens the driver with default settings and "forgets" anything previously stored.  Make whatever selections you like in the driver and "OK" your way out of the driver to accept them.  Then try printing.

That will probably fix the problem but if not, click the gear button to the right of the above "Properties" button and turn off all Driver AI options (check boxes at the bottom).  Then repeat the above and see if that fixes it: that will make Qimage act "dumb" like Photoshop, Lightroom, and all other printing programs and will allow you to compare printing the same way you do from other programs.

Regards,
Mike

This is a completely different computer than I used to run Qimage pro on but I went ahead and did all the things you suggested and still have the same issue. It sends the job to the printer but the progress bar just completes instantly, it loads the paper and nothing else.

Thanks,

The other issue I am running into is when I try to uninstall Qimage-U I get an error that the install.log file could not be opened so I am unable to uninstall qimage. I have checked and the install.log is there and has all the install info in it.

I got it to uninstall by following directions from someone who posted back in 2013 with the same uninstall issue. I completely removed everything from qimage and reinstalled it but still have the same issue with printing to the epson.

I wonder if you might have an antivirus program that is interfering.  You could try disabling whatever AV software you use just to see if that has any effect.  The progress bar instantly completing sounds like Qimage can't access the image(s) which could be an antivirus program blocking it.  What type of images are you trying to print?  Are they TIFF?  JPEG?  Where did they come from.  If you hold your mouse cursor over the image and press the spacebar, does the image come up full screen?

You could also try printing to file but you said you can print the same images to a different printer?  THAT part sounds like the printer driver isn't operating as it should.

Yes the image will come up full screen if I mouse over and space bar.

What are the chances this is just an issue with the trial version of the software?

The trial prints exactly the same.  This has to be a problem with the printer driver if you are able to print to another printer but just not the R1800.  Are you sure you have the official Epson R1800 driver installed?  I see that the driver they offer you is 10 years old which means it wasn't updated for Windows 10/11.  I don't have the printer but I do have the driver and when I print to it with print preview on in the driver, it works fine here: the print shows up in the Epson preview.

Yes it is the official Epson driver and yes it is old.

What you see is the exact same thing that happens on mine, when I hit print it will pop up with the preview, and when you click print the epson status window pops up showing the print being sent to the printer but like I said the stats bar pretty well completes instantly, the status light on the printer flashes like it is receiving the print it starts to load the paper then the light stops flashing and no print.

It is definitely an issue between qimage and the printer though because I can print from any other application to the printer and I can send a print from Qimage to my brother laser printer and it prints fine.

Are you saying that the print preview shows up fine in the Epson print preview window? Because at that point, Qimage is done with it.

Are you saying that the print preview shows up fine in the Epson print preview window? Because at that point, Qimage is done with it.

Exactly right.  When you initially said the "processing" completed instantly, I thought you were talking about Qimage processing the image(s) and you were referring to Qimage's live view (calling that the "preview").  If you activated "Print Preview" in the driver and you are saying the print shows in the Epson driver preview, that is the Epson preview showing you what Qimage sent to the driver (and proving that Qimage did its job correctly and sent the print as instructed).  If you see the print on the Epson driver preview and then the driver won't print it, there is nothing I can do about that: that is not a Qimage issue because as Mel said, Qimage is completely out of the loop at that point and has already done its job properly.  When the Epson driver preview comes up and shows you what the print should look like on the paper and then the driver doesn't print what it is showing you, that is 100% a driver issue.

So if we are interpretting your situation correctly now in that the Epson driver preview shows you the print(s) on the page(s) like you expect but then the driver doesn't produce its own previewed prints, the issue is between the driver and the printer not Qimage and the printer.  At that point, it is irrelevant whether or not other software can print: the driver has already shown you what should be printed... and it isn't printing it.  Qimage optimizes/resamples and sends more data than a "dumb printing" process like Photoshop, Lightroom, and other programs that just dump the original image to the driver.  That's kinda like saying "My car only dies when I put premium gas in it so there must be something wrong with the gas".  When in fact, there is an issue with the car that only surfaces when it tries to increase performance to make use of the detected higher octane gas.

There is one more thing you can check (and this is the TLDR part).  I don't normally have to mention this anymore because most printers no longer have an issue with this but since that printer is so old, it may be relevant...  Have you tried both spool modes?  Meaning, click "Edit", "Preferences", "Printing Options" in Qimage and near the bottom, try both "EMF" and "Raw" selections for the spool type.  One may work better than the other.  Old printers/drivers used to have a problem when software sent a lot of data (like Qimage will in order to get the best quality).  Sometimes when those old drivers received more than a set amount of data, the driver couldn't handle the calculations needed during printing and the driver would run out of memory.  Depending on the driver, one selection (EMF or Raw) may work better than the other and alleviate this problem.  Usually the raw setting worked better but believe it or not, some old drivers were "happier" with the EMF setting.

Also, hardly anyone uses a 32 bit computer (and operating system) anymore but maybe I should ask because I know you are using an 18 year old printer...  Is your Windows 32 or 64 bit?  If the old 32 bit, the above paragraph is even more applicable because the native 32 bit (vs 64 bit) printer drivers really had a problem processing large amounts of data.  It's not that they can't do it, just that on older systems you may have to play with the spool setting to find the right choice where that's generally not necessary with new printers and new 64 bit operating systems.

Yes Qimage is processing the job and sending it to the printer, the printer receives the job from Qimage but acts like there is no data there as it progress bar on the epson driver status window goes from left to right instantly. So I am guessing there is something in the way Qimage ultimate processes the file for print that the epson driver does not recognize or like. And yes if I turn on print preview on the epson driver the image will show up on the preview but when you click print as I explained above the file is sent to the epson driver but it does not print.

This is a newer PC with 64 bit windows 10 pro, the r1800 is an old printer but it has always and still provides excellent print quality so I have seen no reason to upgrade it to a newer printer.

I tried changing the spool settings as you recommended and unfortunately that didn't help the problem either.

I guess I will try to track down my old qimage pro lifetime license and install it to see if it works.

Thanks for the help..
