Title: Unable to open image Post by: bennybennison on April 22, 2017, 05:34:43 PM Hi there, I have discovered there are some files that Qimage doesn't like and I can't find any indication as to why. I will post a link in here, maybe it's my computer but I have tried it on my desktop and laptop with the same results. There were some other images that were doing the same but when the last Qimage udate came out these were then viewable. The problem is that when you look at the folder in Qimage the image says 'Image Read Error'.
Here is the link - https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/docs/Earth.jpg Thanks in advance, Ben Title: Re: Unable to open image Post by: Fred A on April 22, 2017, 07:20:18 PM Quote Qimage udate came out these were then viewable. Benny, from what I see in the specs of the image, it was created buy Photoshop in a Macintosh computer.I converted it to a TIF using another program which reformatted it, an that TIF (or JPG) now works in QU I will see what Mike says... Fred PS I opened it in PS and resaved it on a PC as a TIF and it opens in QU. So sounds like something the Mac does??? Title: Re: Unable to open image Post by: Winfried on April 22, 2017, 07:48:46 PM This *.jpg is not a RGB-file, but an CMYK-file.
Qimage does not support CMYK-files. Has nothing to do with Mac or Windows. The file contains an "U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2" ICC-profile. Regards, I saw the SWOP but didn't think CMYK Thanks, What bugs me now is that the TIFFs I made in Photo Shop show up fine and they show embedded SWOP profiles too. Here's the file in RGB colorspace, and SWOP colorspace. Fred Title: Re: Unable to open image Post by: bennybennison on April 23, 2017, 09:42:23 AM Ah cracking, good to know. I didn't think of that otherwise I'd have just changed the profile.
Everybody's right on the ball in this forum. Thanks a lot! Title: Re: Unable to open image Post by: Fred A on April 23, 2017, 09:44:43 AM Hey guys,
Mike told me last night what I am seeing WRT SWOP. Yes, that is CMYK colorspace which QU can see if the image is a TIFF. QU will not see the image in JPG format. It has something to do with the header when SWOP and JPG meet. Since QU will read the SWOP colorspace when presented in a TIFF, therefore QU does not produce a message that SWOP is unsupported; just has to be a TIFF. Since SWOP is not designed to print on an RGB printer and via Windows, no point to tracking it down. Benny,That SWOP profile is a standard for printing on a printing press, not for your computer printing... Fred Title: Re: Unable to open image Post by: bennybennison on April 27, 2017, 03:42:22 PM Thanks Fred, if I ever need to I'll just change over the profile.
