There is a thread in DPReview under Printers and Printing that asks about a method of preventing a printer (Epson 3880) developing clogs during a long absence.  I suggested considering QU Unclogger.  However, there seemed to be concern that the printer would not automatically switch on from sleep when the print was requested.  I thought it would do so automatically - unless it was switched off.  Of course the PC would need to be switched on.  I have the 3880 and never have an issue of starting automatically after a couple of weeks unused.  No clogs either!   Any thoughts?

I don't have the 3880 but as I remember, that printer actually has a feature that turns it off after some inactivity (off, not sleep mode).  In that case, it will not wake up by just printing to the printer.  I believe there's a maintenance mode option where you can disable that auto-off feature which should take care of that problem.  I would suggest searching 3880 maintenance mode features.

I've been searching for this feature on my R2000 and have only just found it.
I even went to the Epson support chat facility and they said the R2000 did not have the feature!!
It's a separate utility called "Power Off Timer" and is on the Epson disc - mine must have got un-installed accidently so I've now re-installed.
See screen shots below. You can see my R2000 is set to power off after 2 hours but it is possible to set it to "never".
This is what you would need to automatically run unclogger at  over a period of time.

That makes sense.  I now remember there was an update to add a power off timer.  However, although the maintenance mode shows that heading on my 3880 there are no timer options.  A Google search indicated it is not functioning on older 3880 printers (such as mine) which is why I had forgotten about it.
