Title: Unexpected Changes to Safes Printer Settings
Post by: Ed Knight on July 29, 2014, 06:08:58 PM
Qi Ultimate 2014.247.  Canon IPF6400 (Driver v 4.62).   Color Management via Photoshop

I did a print run yesterday after several weeks of setting idle.  Noticed colors were off and started diagnosing.  I use Photoshop for color management.  Turned out that all of my saved printer settings files are now setting the printer's color management to "Color" even though they were originally saved as "No Color Management".  Thus, I was double profiling.  I also noticed that some saved files are also bringing up the wrong paper types, paper sizes and ICC Profiles.

I tried some older backed up versions of the Qimage settings files and found the same problems.  So, I think the Qimage settings files are the same, but correspondence between the driver & Qimage appears to have changed.  I've not updated the driver for some time, so that isn't the issue.

I plan to rebuild all of my saved settings files, but would like a hint of what the problem my be before spending the time.  I've used different versions of Qimage for many years and have not had this problem until now.

Thanks

How did you save the settings in PS, in the driver?

Qimage saves printer setups in Qimage... which includes all of your specs.

Thanks, Fred.

I had saved the settings using Qimage's File/Save command and the files show up in the Qimage File/Recall/Printer Setup screen.  I've used this process for 6-7 years on an HP B9180 without experiencing the problem.  Perhaps something quirky with the IPF6400 Driver?

The printer driver may have been updated over the years and the one you are using now may not be compatible with the old saved setups.  I would suggest using "Help", "Reset Printer Settings" and then use printer setup to recreate the setups manually.  That should ensure that all the saved setups are compatible with the current printer driver version you are using.  Try one as an example and make sure it (re)loads properly and if so, you'll know you need to remake the other setups as well.  I would not recommend loading old setups before you update them, however, since loading incompatible data might cause problems: hence the recommendation to do the "Reset Printer Settings" to get any old data out of there first.

Regards,
Mike

Thanks Mike.

If the driver updated, it did so automatically without my knowledge.  But your suggestion that an update caused my issue is logical.  I'll follow the process you laid out, but will also make a habit to do a quick review of driver settings before each print job.

Thanks again
