good morning, I need some help using the poster mode, my goal is to print 3x1 prints. I have played around and I don't get it, is there any documentation I can look at.

Have you tried the poster mode option: select the "More" option at the bottom of the print sizes, then check "Poster", then enter 3x1?

i cant figure out how to extend the image across three pages

i want to be able to enlarge the print to cover x number of pages. cant figure out how

That's what the poster mode option does.  Qimage doesn't preview each poster panel.  When you enter 3x1 in the poster option, it'll show the image on one page but there will be a small red "3x1" label on the image, telling you that it will print on three pages.  Give it a try but turn on print preview in the driver: that will show you the three pages before you actually print.

mike one more question, it seems that once u pick a paper size, whatever image fits , is divided into the number of tiles, but the total size of the tiles is not used, how do i adjust for that so the total size of the title is used for image area, thx

I'm not sure what you are asking on that one.  When you tell it to print a 3x1 poster, the size of a tile is the printable area of the page.  So let's say you are using a Canon printer and 8.5 x 11 sheets.  Without using borderless, those have a printable area of 8.0 x 10.665 inches.  So if you specify a 3x1 poster, you are getting a 24 x 10.665 inch print: each tile is 8.0 x 10.665 (assuming auto crop is on).  If you want to adjust the size of the tiles, you need to adjust the page margins to make the size tiles you want on each page.

let's say I have three tiles of 20x20. so my image size is 60x20. i should be able to print an image that is 60 that is divided in 3 (20 each tile), but I can only do is an image that fits in 20x20 and the Q spreads it over the other tile. how do i create a canvas that is 60x20 and then it is printed in 3 x20x20? does this make sense?

See attached screen shot.  Poster printing fills the printable area on each page so you need to make a 20.0 x 20.0 inch page.  I did this on the Canon Pro 2100: selected 21 x 21 as the paper size and that gave me a printable area of 20.763 x 20.763.  I then went to Edit, Preferences, Print and Page Formatting, Page Margins, and entered .763 as "additional" margins on the top and left.  That gave me the 20.0 x 20.0 page size (printable area): take a look at the top circled area.  Now that you have a 20x20 page size (tile size), select "More" in print sizes and enter "Poster" and 3x1.  You then get the result on the live view.  Notice the circled area that says "3x1" indicating that you will get a 3x1 poster.  And since your page size (tile size) is 20x20, you will have three 20x20 tiles and a 60x20 overall print size.

i think i got the hang of it, a little hard to visualize, but i got it to work

 

The poster feature is getting an overhaul this summer.  It's admittedly a bit clunky as-is.  Major improvements coming including visualizing each poster panel.
