Clear as mud to me.
As is your description. Can you clarify "going from an Epson printer to a Canon printer"? How were you "going from"? Did you recall a Canon printer setup? Did you use the printer setup button, drop down the printers, and select the Canon manually? When did the message appear: immediately after selecting the printer or were you able to select the printer and then click "OK" and then you got the message?
Only thing I can tell you at this point is that the error was not in Qimage. That error address came from the operating system so either Windows (some part of it) died... or your (I presume Canon) printer driver is faulty.
