Thanks for the "heads up" on that ;I think it was always there in batch filer mode, but handy for me as I usually edit individual images.

I do like the Auto-Instaview; I can now use smaller thumbs to see more at once yet instantly have a much bigger view of any thumb, thanks Mike  ;)

Regarding "Insta-View."

I've noticed when the window enlarges over an image there is a ramp-up to the larger size:  Say 1/2 to 1 second to full-size and I don't know if the speed is computer speed or image size dependent.

However, there is no 'ramp down' but rather an abrupt window closure.

Wouldn't it be better to fade-up (or ramp-up in size), and then follow with a corresponding fade-down (or ramp-down) too rather than the abrupt closure?

Hi Mack,
I don't see that here. There's a very short delay (as designed) before the intaview appears but no noticeable "ramp up".  I've checked with a 25MB raw, 45MB raw, 35MB tiff and a 400kB, 1024 pixel jpeg and all seem to be very similar as to the enlargement for intaview.
I suspect the delay you see is related to your computer/graphics card.
Personally I prefer an instant appearance and disappearance.  ;)

I have to concur with Terry.
No ramp up here either.
Just for the heck of it, leave the cursor on one thumb, and click the center mouse button, (wheel) on and off. Still getting a fade?
If so, I would look for a video card driver upgrade for your card.
Another test would be to hover the mouse over the Preview panel, upper right (with an image in the queue of course) and see if you get the same ramping effect there too.

The fade in is very quick, maybe less than 0.1 sec. just that I notice that is almost appears like a quick zoom in when it snaps on screen and enlarges.  The fade out is very abrupt though and a slight mouse movement seems to exaggerate the snap closing vs. fractional slower opening.  I suspect there is some timing delay set when it opens the image viewer vs. closing it.  Not a big deal, just something I see here, and the same with the middle mouse button too.

Bit touchy on the snap closing with the mouse here too.  Might be better to let the mouse pointer move within the enlarged image to point out a defect needing correction correction to someone else rather than touching the mouse slightly and the enlarged image snaps shut.  Just had that happen.  Sort of annoying to point out a dust speck in the sky to someone and the image closes when I moved the pointer to point it out.  Seems the pointer should move anywhere in the enlarged image rather than a slight movement closing the entire image to the smaller pane.  Once the pointer goes off the image then the pane could close, or fade out.

A side issue, and not with this version, is that I have noticed that some JPG images appears reddish in the view pane.  The new image viewer shows the Cam/clr as "Nikon D800E, NKWide.icm" and is reddish.  Another JPG shows it as "Nikon D800E, *sRGB IEC61966-2.1*" which looks much better and not so reddish in the view window.  I suspect it is coming from PS CS6 somewhere as I shoot RAW so who knows why and where Nikon NKWide.icm comes from other than maybe Nikon Capture NX2 maybe?  Not related to QI though other than spotting the reddish cast of the "Nikon NKWide.icm" file (and it also prints reddish too, fwiw.).

Wrong tool for the job.
If you want to point out something minuscule or even obvious in an image, CTRL X opens the Examiner where you have a cursor plus the ability to enlarge in steps to show even pixels.
The whole point of the Instaview is to give you a better peek at the thumbnail. Yet not in a bothersome way. That's exactly what it does,
You can view the image for as long or as short as you like by either not moving the cursor or moving the cursor.
Otherwise, use Hover Spacebar for a quick Hi Rez look, or as I mentioned, EXAMINER where you can do any kind of a look.

Thanks Fred. Never knew about Examiner feature and Cntl-X but that seems to work.

Did notice that after I used Examiner, the new image-viewer enlarger thing doesn't work anymore unless I exit QI, restart QI, and then go back into that folder for it to resume the auto-enlarging part?  Same for you, or some way to cancel out the Ctrl-X Examiner so the quick image view will work again without exiting and restarting QI?

It works fine if you use the Right mouse and select Image Examiner instead of the Keyboard CTRL X It comes right back.
If I do use CTRL X and close that, I can restore Instaview  by doing the Right Mouse Image examiner and closing it so I don't have to lose any work I did by closing Qimage.

I'll inform Mike about the Keyboard CTRL X.
