If I have a print in the Editor > Sel. Color and am using the "Eyedropper Tool" to see the RGB values in the lower pane, is there some trick to keeping that eyedropper position and values locked so when I move the cursor over to the edit pane to change the color numbers the eyedropper values shown will be off that selected spot?

Something like what PS does with their "Color Sampler Tool" (It leaves a numbered marker on the print and I can watch that value change when altering the colors.) verses their "Eyedropper Tool" which seems more like the QU one.  Maybe a right-button click locks the eyedropper to a spot, shows a marker and number for that spot so one can adjust away and see that values on that spot change?

As it is, I have to write the Eyedropper's RGB numbers down, move the mouse and change them in the Sel. Color window, then go back and re-read the "exact same spot" (Hopefully, and good luck with that!) to see if I went the right way and how much.  Better if it were "locked" to that initial spot than moving it off and back onto it and coming up with new and different numbers than the first.

Tia.

I just upgraded to Q 2014.101 - I really like the new look.  Only problem is I can shut it down.  When I click on the "X" to close Qimage I get a "File access denied" error.  I get the same error trying to shut it down with "Task Manager".  I have to finally wait for the Windows message that "Qimage is not responding" before it will shutdown with Task Manager.  This is the first version of Qimage, going back many years, where I've experienced this.  I was just using Q 2013.125 today, before the upgrade.

Any ideas?

Hi Steve,
Sorry for the trouble.
How about some information for Mike before he gets to work.

What version of Windows... 32 or 64 bit.?
Cold boot the computer, (fresh turn on in the morning) What other program is running.?

Try this and let us know...
Disable your ANTIVIRUS software. Most AV software has a Disable button somewhere in a TOOL menu or a right click on the task bar icon for the Antivirus program.

Now Get a FRESH DOWNLOAD of Qimage Ultimate.
Re-install
Enable your Anti virus again.

That error message indicates a file was open by another app.  The only way that can happen is if a utility such as an antivirus or other anti malware utility is interfering.  What anti-malware software do you use?  You may want to try adding \programdata\ddisoftware\qimage as an exception in your anti-malware software to see if that fixes the problem.

The only other thing that can cause an issue like that is a bad installation.  Installing QU as administrator and then switching to a different (non-admin) account to run it can cause file access problems.  The fix is to elevate the privileges of the user account where it will be installed and reinstall it.

Thanks Mike and Fred.

I'm running Vista 64 and have Norton 360.  I've cold started, reinstalled Qimage with same results.  I've turned off anti-virus and reinstalled - same results.  I downloaded a new copy of Qimage 2014.101 and installed it with AV off and same results.  I found something new though.  If I go to the file menu and click on exit without saving settings, I'm able to close Qimage.  Does Q 2014 save settings in a different location from previous versions?

Thanks again,

Steve

This posted on Mike's web sits...
I'll bet Norton is blocking the save of the ini file as it thinks it's a new file and shouldn't be oermitted.
But wait a few minutes for Mike to reply.
That's will be a surer reply than mine.

I double checked and clicking "Exit without saving settings" only bypasses the saving of the ini files and not one line of code has been changed in that area.  I still think something on your system is interfering with the saving of those files.  But let's see if we can gain some more clues.  When you close normally, it saves the ini files in this order:

(1) \programdata\ddisoftware\qimage\qimagepr.ini
(2) \programdata\ddisoftware\qimage\qimage-u.ini
(3) \programdata\ddisoftware\qimage\Log\{Q} Last Exit.job
(4) \programdata\ddisoftware\qimage\Log\{Q} Last Exit.jst
(5) \programdata\ddisoftware\qimage\Log\{Q} Last Exit.jss
(6) \programdata\ddisoftware\qimage\Log\{Q} Last Exit.jpt
(7) \programdata\ddisoftware\qimage\Log\{Q} Last Exit.jp1
(8 ) \programdata\ddisoftware\qimage\icm.ini
(9) \programdata\ddisoftware\qimage\sizes.ini

Could you go into QU, close it normally, let the error appear, and then check the file date/time stamps on the above files?  You should be able to tell where it stopped because all of the above should have the current date/time when you look at them with Windows Explorer.  When you get to one of the files on the list and it does not have a current date/time, that's the one it stopped on.  Please let me know which one in the list has an old (not updated) date/time and I can see if there is anything different about how that particular file is being saved.

Thanks,
Mike

I don't see this file:  \programdata\ddisoftware\qimage\Log\{Q} Last Exit.jss
Both of the following have old date/time stamp:
 \programdata\ddisoftware\qimage\icm.ini
 \programdata\ddisoftware\qimage\sizes.ini

Hope that helps,

Steve

That does help!  Just to confirm, my number (5) was missing but (3), (4), (6), and (7) all existed and had the current date/time and the old date/time didn't start until my #8?  It's normal for #5 (the .jss file) to be missing if you didn't have any images in the queue when you shut it down.

Thanks for the help.

In addition to my question above, when you start QU, does the yellow splash logo appear, disappear, and then reappear again before fading out?  Or does it just appear once and then fade out as it should?
