v2016.100    Jul 5, 2015

Priority: High

v2016.100 includes the following:

  • Final Windows 10 compatibility: all internals and code have been updated to be fully Windows 10 compatible.
  • Support for 6 and 8 core systems: many printing and image processing operations can now make use of up to 8 CPU cores!
  • Print processing: print processing is now 20-30% faster thanks to code optimizations.
  • Image processing: downsampling and email creation tasks are now twice as fast.
  • Thumbs/raw cache: thumbnail and raw cache processing are 30-40% faster, particularly on machines with 6 or more cores.
  • UI optimizations: Minor UI improvements make for a smoother user experience.

OK. I had plenty of opportunity to play with this Virgin oops! Version, and the efficiency improvements are real and the lower numbers in the report above, are mine.
I have the slower machine, and still I got fantastic results.
The creating Email/Web copies (downsampling) was the same for me as Mike got testing, 50% faster.
My point is two fold.
Anytime, downsampling is involved, (Save as, Convert (with downsize), the 8 cores swing into action.
Point two, Jeff and I will really appreciate the time saved as we convert that into Nap Time.

Point three of two,  Just like gas mileage, yours may vary!
It will depend on the configuration of the cores within the cpu...
Some of your testing might reveal slower times, and some may be faster times.

This is a powerful improvement for us in this new Qimage Ultimate.
Enjoy

Yes, I have an older (2010) version of the i7 processor and the results are a little different but still an impressive improvement.
See a detailed set of test results below:

PC with Intel i7 950 quad core processor (Bloomfield 2010), 2 threads per core. 3.07GHz boosted to 3.47GHz
Raw Cache
16 raws from 600D
QU 2015-128: 105 secs
QU 2016-100: 77 secs
26% improvement   (1.4x)
Printing
Results for 10 10x8" prints, 125 MB each (in queue)
QU 2015-128: 160 secs
QU 2016-100: 135 secs
16% improvement   (1.2x)
Print to File
Results for 10" 10x8" to 360ppi
QU 2015-128: 225 secs
QU 2016-100: 125 secs
44% improvement   (1.8x)
Conversion & Email copies; from original raw images with filters.
8 email copies 1024 x682 pixels
QU 2015-128: 102 secs
QU 2016-100: 60 secs
40% improvement   (1.7x)

I have a CPU meter gadget and that shows all 8 cores (threads) working, up to 100% in some cases.
I like the new splash screen too  Cool

Help!!!
I have a problem...

Just installed 2016.100 and I'm getting missing white blocks on the print (see attached image)

canon ipf6100 printing on a roll - didn't do anything special apart from remove the white space at the bottom of the page and adjust the position in page editor.

Whats going on?!  Huh?

Since 2016 incorporates the use of 8 cores when it can, we need to check
what processor family do you have... duo core, quad core, 8 core?
What setting in Print preferences under EDIT  See scrfeen snap. Should be RAW for large prints.
If it is on Raw, then check EDIT PREFERENCES  Multi core threading. Where is yours set compared to your processor.

Give as much system information as you can.

What printer?  This looks like the raw versus EMF printing issue where the driver just can't keep up with the data.  About mid-way down on this page is information on what to do if you see missing pieces in prints:

Hello Mike
Thanks for your quick response... it's very much appreciated.
Printer I have is a Canon ipf6100
so I've followed the 'Houston, We Have a [Printing] Problem!' - 'Partial prints, all-back, or no prints' guide

1, "Enable Advanced Printing Features" was checked! so I unchecked it
2, "spool type" was already set to RAW

so I've just done a test run same as before and its printed perfectly without any missing blocks.... which is Great!

I don't know if it was the unchecking of the Enable Advanced Printing Features that did it or that I have switched the computer off and on again since trying last and installing the new 2016 version (I don't know!!! ha ha ha you never know!) But this has never been an issue before 2016.100

With regards to Freds suggestion on the Printing Options should I have the Print Spooler Format option set to RAW as at the moment it's set to EMF?

Many thanks
John

fyi
system -
windows 8.1
intel celeron E3400 (2 cores) QI is telling me also that I have 2 cores and is set as that (see attached)
8GB RAM

Enable advanced printing features could have been the problem although Fred and I tested the ipf 6100 and ipf 9000 with 24x36 prints and we didn't get any missing pieces even with that enabled and the printer in EMF mode.  We tried both modes and never saw a problem.  He's running Windows 7 and I'm running Windows 10.

You should have "Enable Advanced Printing Features" turned off and Raw enabled in the printer properties, and also use the Raw setting in QU printing preferences.  I suspect that will prevent any problems in the future.

ah...

Its not fixed... (sort of)

The test that worked I changed that paper to a cheaper one that I have a load of.
I've just changed it back to print a 'Good Copy' and the problem is back...

I have printer set-ups saved for each paper I use and the only difference I can see is on the Job Properties...
the setting that works ok I have Prints and Posters both turned off and on the setting that don't work I have the Prints and Poster both set to Max 600-dpi (see attached screen shot)

What do you make of that?
The previous version worked perfectly!

Many thanks

Thanks...
I should have said that I've printed the image on the good paper so the immediate panic is over!

The problem with missing print pieces is fixed in v2016.101.  It only affected 2 core printing so once I forced my QU into 2 core and tested it, I was able to find and fix the bug.  Thanks for the assistance in finding the issue!

Brilliant!
Thank you...  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
I'm at home now (think we're several hours ahead here in the UK) so I'll try the new update in the morning.

Good work!
