Hi, Mike. This is an issue that recurs from time to time (as far back as 2013) and it is back again with 2017.112.

When I recall a job from the log, I get an endless stream of "Control has no parent" windows. I'm running Windows 10 v1607 64 bit. Here is what I am doing:
1. File > Open Automated Job Log
2. Click the search icon to find a job I want to rerun.
3. Double-click the desired job. This displays the Confirm dialog box.
4. Click "Job".
5. This closes the Automated Job Log window and then the endless stream of "Control has no parent" windows starts. I have to use Task Manager to kill QU.

Once QU gets into this 'state', it is repeatable, i.e. if I restart QU and repeat the steps above, the symptoms recur. However, it is possible to 'clear' the state, but I'm never quite sure exactly what I do that eventually clears the state.

For example, today I tried to recall a previous job and was unable to do it because of this problem. So, I had to manually reconstruct the job (i.e. choice of media, media size, profile, printer settings, etc.). After the job printed and a log was saved, I can *NOW* go into the Automated Job Log and recall the original job without causing the endless stream of "Control has no parent" windows.

I'm wondering how I can best help you troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks.

Cheers!

Hi Brad,
Fred here.
I have tried at least 20 times, using 4 different versions to get the above error.
If there is any way you could video the event, it would be ideal, but it sounds like it is almost random.
Can you provide a screen snaps of the main screen (Live View) and another of Settings tab screen so we can set placement, orientation lock, info, any filters checked?

Does the problem  recur with specific images, or specific print sizes, anything that is in common when the error occurs?
Was the job initially saved with a different printer?
A  bug related to recalling jobs was addressed in the next release 113.

If and when this happens again, I will grab my phone and video the event. And take screenshots. But I was wondering if there is an internal debugging mode that could be enabled to provide better internal logs?

I don't believe this is random, but the conditions are obscure. Since it goes back to 2013, it has happened on Windows 7, now on Windows 10. In the past, sometimes, simply upgrading QU was enough to fix it. In the past, there has also been a workaround that sometimes worked; namely, at step 4, with the "Confirm" dialog box opn, click "Cancel" and return to the main window. Then restart QU. Then (sometimes), the problem is gone. Since it is a "Control with no parent", it implies a problem in the UI software library.

Cheers!

Brad, QU 113 will be out shortly, and that should take care of the issue. We can only hope as no one here can reproduce it to confirm a fix.

Thanks, I'll install 113 when it's released. I'm also hopeful that Mike has found a way to re-instate the "sort media by length" function that we had up to 106. I really miss that one in my workflow.

Happy holidays!

Cheers!

Hi, Fred. It is happening again, on QU 2017.113. I have recorded a video of it. Due to the size of video file, I have uploaded it to a OneDrive folder. Here is the link to the video.

https://1drv.ms/v/s!Av58-d0e4yF2uSBOTI9YGs6ANO-H

You will see several occurrences of the problem in the video. The problem is this: when I attempt to load a saved job, QU generates an endless string of "control without parent" errors. My only recourse is to kill QU via Task Manager. The first occurrence in the video follows an earlier occurrence where I had already killed QU via Task Manager, hence the start up warning. The video also shows an attempt to "clear" the condition by cancelling out of the job log search window. In the past, this sometimes "clears" the condition, but not this time.

Let me know what else I can provide to help diagnose this issue.

Thanks.

Cheers!

Sorry to take so long to reply, but I wanted Mike to see the video.
Hard to discern much that would help other than confirming it does happen.

He will be releasing version 115 very soon.
See if that takes care of it.

OK, I'll install 115. And if it happens again, I'll report the issue under the 115 thread.

Cheers!
