Well, got it figured out yet?
This one is a dream.
I will assume a decent size page. 8.5 x 11 or larger.
For demo purposes, Select a print size from the Print Tab. I picked 2.5 x 3.5/
Now drag, or click a plus on at least three thumb images.
Now select one by clicking on it, and move it/drag it someplace else; same with the other two.
Next click / open the drop down menu from the placement button and down at the bottom you will see new selections.
Click on "Save Current as Custom Layout.
All that is left is to name it.

To recall what you made, simply click on the same placement button, and select OPEN CUSTOM LAYOUT.
It recalls what you saved minus the old images and gives you your template only, where you can add new images if you with.
Mike has taken all the cramps out of making and using a Layout.

See snaps below.
First is the three pictures  which I have dragged around even over lapped them. 027
Next is the templates only which I recalled for use by my selecting from OPEN, THREE OVERLAP which is what I named my save.
Last snap is the name in the list.

Summary    No more looking for SAVE icon, no more remembering to click on L button for layout.
No more remembering to go to Prints tab and clicking CUSTOM, then a dot in LAYOUT and the selecting
No more placing blank templates and placing them first, to make your own.
.
Hope you got a jump start.
Happy Thanks Giving a bit early, but I forget easily
