Hi,

I've just received your upgrade offer via email. Before I take up your offer I need to know one simple detail!!!!
I'm in the middle of a large print job at the moment. My question is - if I do the upgrade will the new upgrades over write any of my settings and or profiles? I can't afford to lose anytime sorting it all out.

regards

Hi,
It shouldn't do but you need to say which version you are using at present.
Mike would have to confirm there would be no problem.

If you got the upgrade offer, that means you already have Qimage Ultimate and renewing Qimage Ultimate to a later version will not overwrite or change any of your saved settings.

OK I'm a few dollars poorer now!!! Thanks. The new version looks nice.

Way back in June 24, 2014 I had several posts re Soft Proof quality. Never did get it solved. The new version I have just installed has great Soft Proof quality. The very same files, tiffs, that I used then now look just fine. So whatever the issue was is now solved.

Bruce,
The softproof results depend mainly on the printer profile matching against the monitor profile.
Might be the same  TIF, but different printer profile or monitor profile.

Fred A nothing has changed. Same tiffs. Same paper. Same profiles. Same printer. Same computer. Same operator!!! In fact same customer. Just a repeat run of prints.

FYI I still have the previous version of QImage on an older computer. On that computer the very same tiff gives the previous poor results with Soft Proof. What ever you have changed has worked for me.

No mention of monitor and monitor profiles!

The difference between the new and old computers is probably the monitor and their profiles. Re-calibrate the old computer with a decent device (X-rite, Spider etc.) and all should be fine.

Sorry but the ONLY thing that has changed is QImage. No new computer. No new monitor. No new anything. Just QImage.
I'm not complaining just pointing out the fact that the latest version of QImage solved the problem for whatever reason.

And it has only change on my work computer where I installed the new version. As I pointed out my old computer with the older version still has the soft proof issues.

Sorry, but the monitor PROFILE is probably not good.
Try re-calibrating and see what happens. I've had Q and QU for years and calibrated my monitors regularly for years and soft proof is as good as I would expect. Nothing beats a test print anyway.

Bruce,
Terry and I are happy that you are extra pleased with the new QU, but trust me, nothing has been done to softproof or any other side of what you see.
Whatever improved Softproof that you see, it has to do with something in your system; monitor profile, printer profile, readjustment of something...
Best,
Fred

OK. No debate. But I can assure you that I'm paranoid about changing my settings. I have a large client/museum who demands consistency and I first encountered the soft proof issue doing some prints for them. I'm currently repeating an order of over 100 A4 and A3+ prints for them. The 5 year old computer that QImage is on is only ever used for printing. So no changes needed. I've been ok with ignoring soft proofing. My work flow is such that it's only a curiosity exercise. However now I'm more inclined to use it.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I only raise the matter for you information.

regards
