Title: Bizarre and inconsistent color management in qimage version 2010.208
Post by: br1dge on June 19, 2010, 05:03:35 PM
Hi everyone.. Long time user of Qimage - been "out of the game" for a while, so maybe I am missing something dreadfully simple.  Short scenario is this. I shoot with a DSLR in RAW, and convert (in this case,) to jpegs with SRGB color profiles embedded. The jpegs look fine in PS CS4 and Acdsee, but in qimage they look horrible, but on the "main" screen as well as when printed. There is a VERY strong green cast on the images. I have disabled the monitor profile in qimage, no change. I then reset all color mgmt settings in qimage, no change. Then I tripped across something.  If I add a picture to the print queue (in qimage,) the image is "green," but if I double click the image and go into "edit" mode - the picture looks great.  Like wise, if I do a "ctrl-e" to open the full page editor both images are green til I click on "HQ preview," then the left one is right, but the right one is still wrong. I have attached a screen shot to help show what I am trying to describe. The only thing different since the last time used qimage (6 months ago,) is I am using a new monitor. I went from a 21" IBM CRT to a Dell U2410.

Pulling my hair out with this - any help would be much appreciated!   ???

Sounds like you have the wrong monitor profile or a corrupted one. After changing monitor profiles or disabling to OFF, you must click VIEW and rebuild thumbs to see the change.

That is backup proof the monitor profile is "bad news".
The preview panel upper right uses the thumbnail image as well as the Full Page Editor screen when set to Thumbs/small images.. Qimage uses them for increased speed when redrawing image location on the pages.
So if either of those is green, that proves that the monitor profile is wrong or bad.
Remember to click VIEW and REBUILD THUMBS after making a change to the profile.
You know you can use the sRGB that comes with Qimage if you wish.

The only place you have me... is when you say the print is green. I would need more details on that one. Using a Profile for the printer?
Settings in the driver and settings in Qimage when using a profile?

What paper? What printer?

It occurred to me that you might be looking at softproofing and calling that a print.
I hope not!
Softproof uses that monitor profile too.

Fred - you are the man.  Rebuilding thumbs did the trick (on screen at least.) I will use srgb for my monitor profile now, and rebuild one with my spyder later.  As to the prints, yes, I mean the ones on paper.  I suspect it is unrelated, yet coincidental.  The prints on paper look exactly like they used to on screen, before your tip.  Very green and nasty.  I have double checked Mike's instruction at http://ddisoftware.com/tech/articles/june-2005-using-icc-profiles-with-canon-printers/
and found my settings to be accurate, using multiple printer profiles.  I think my next step may be a deep nozzle cleaning, and perhaps new ink - as it has been several months since I have printed anything.

With that said, while my other photo apps were rendering colors correctly on the screen, they all have the same problem printing green, which further substantiates my suspicion to a physical issue.

Any other ideas?

That about sums it all up.
Go to work on the printer cleaning, and when you are successful, the prints will be perfect.

That did it... Thanks a bunch for the tip on rebuilding thumbs - might be a good idea to have that run automatically after some of the "reset" functions....

Thanks again
