Title: Bizarre problem with 4X6 Post by: bill hansen on July 14, 2010, 08:52:20 PM OS=Win 7 54 bits. Printer=Epson Artisan 810
Using this printer (which is new to me) I've had no trouble printing on 8X10 paper, but I'm unable to print on 4X6 paper and I haven't found the solution in the tutorial or in the manual (I know the answer must be in there somewhere, I just can't find it after quite a bit of searching.) I'm just trying to print a few - five to be exact - simple test images, no borders, no cropping, nothing at all fancy. In the printer driver, as I view the driver in Qimage, Paper size is set to 4X6 inches. In the Page bar above the preview panel in Qimage, the page size appears as 3.766X5.766 inches. Print size in Qimage set to 4X6. In the "View Print Queue" bar I get the notation "5 images, 10 pages". In the preview panel each image is oriented "landscape", while the paper image is oriented "portrait". That is, the preview of the image is "crosswise" to the image of the printer paper. Of course when I click on the Print Properties bar I get the messages that the "image is larger than one page" and the choice either to print the image across two pages, or to have Qimage reduce image size so it will fit (crosswise) on a single sheet of 4X6 paper. If I try to rotate the image from beneath the preview screen, nothing happens. If I rotate the image 90 degrees in the image editor, it rotates 90 degrees in the editor but it is oriented 180 degrees (still "crosswise") in the preview panel. There are further problems but apparently I've exhausted the capacity of this message box and can't type any further. Sorry if this part is more confused than the rest.I know there has to be a simple fix for this. I apologize for asking the group, and thank you all in advance for your help. Bill, you are reading the specs perfectly. In the Page bar above the preview panel in Qimage, the page size appears as 3.766X5.766 inches. Print size in Qimage set to 4X6. The printable area of the paper (4 x 6 size) is as you quoted. 3.766 x 5.766. You cannot put a 4 x 6 print into a space that is smaller than the 4 x 6. So Qimage responds by informing you that you will need multiple paper to make a full 4 x 6. So we have two ways to beat the problem. 1) Instead of asking for a 6 x 4 print size, select FIT TO PAGE. There's no rotating involved anywhere The other alternative is a Borderless print which will fill the 6 x 4 paper completely and you can select 6 x 4 as the print size. I'm pleased with my little Epson 810. It's not the 1800, but the image quality is very acceptable, much better than I'd expected, now that I've made a custom printer profile for it. Bill |
