There are a couple of threads on DPReview where Al is unable to get just the file name printed when using the appropriate Info option.  This has gone beyond my very limited abilities so I suggested he post here but registration has failed for him.  He's just about keeping his cool but is lost and very frustrated.

The best  way would probably to solve his registration issues so he can post here - Mike?

But if someone could check the threads and give him decent advice on DPReview that would be appreciated.

The link to the later thread is:  http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1003&thread=41539350

The earlier one is at: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1003&thread=41511498

I'd be happy to do that but DP Review won't allow me to register there because I have a Yahoo address  Roll Eyes
It's a simple thing to do to get the file name only using the Info Stamp in the Editor, see screen shot below. It seems as if Al has too many ticks in the box!
You do have to click Apply to see it in the editor. It is not visible on the thumbnail and you need to click HQ Preview in the Page Editor to see it there.
Also use hover mouse over thumb and space bar to see the result on full screen.
Terry
PS. Don't get confused with my file name - it contains the date after re-naming during copy from flash card with Qimage Ultimate (FlashPipe feature)!

Sandy

He needs to set up his own template, I've posted the info to the DPR thread.

Here it is:

Hi

The Contact Page template will always print the exif info, what you have to do is set up your own layout.
Set the print size of the thumbnail you want, then drag the [Template] image onto the page. Add the filename as Floating Text in the Page Editor (click on the 'A ' button , then under the template image), then link to 'All Prints in Queue'. Save As a Layout, then re-open it from the 'Custom' dialog box. Add your prints and the page will be set up.
Custom Layouts are one of the most powerful tools in QImage and are well worth mastering, you can do virtually anything you want.
This is what the Floating text box should look like:

Fred, can you check what I've said above in case I've left anything out?

Until Mike gets to read the posts, perhaps, between Brian, Terry, and me, something will click for him.
I just made a contact sheet with Filename only, 24 to the sheet of 10.7 x 8.2 printable area.
I went to Custom (in Print Properties), Clicked on Make Contact sheet with Info, told QU that I want 6 across and 4 down (Landscape page set up)
Once I define the number of prints per page, the user can add a hundred + and Qimage will simply absorb them all and make more pages.

See snaps attached.
With this setup, you click the INFO box, and select FILENAME only if that's what you want.

This does it for me.

Terry's idea has an extra feature, if needed.
When the info is applied in the Image Editor screen, it is saved as part of the filter applied to that image, (same as a Fill light or Unsharp Mask or contrast)
There is an advantage to this method which allows you to have the filename on the image at all times.

Comes in handy when you have multiple prints in compact mode, tight spaced.

See snap attatched

Fred,

Is this feature available in QImage Pro? If so, how do you get to it to change it?

The original query was regarding QImage Pro.

I've never found the QImage Pro contact sheet with info option doing what I need and have instead made my own custom templates.

Edit: Oops, I use QImage Studio, not Pro. But I think it is the same for this feature.

Hi Tom,
Unfortunately, I only have Studio and Ultimate running on my machine.
I upgraded from Pro when I upgraded from a 5 1/4 inch floppy drive to a hard drive.  Cheesy

The situation is thus: (seriously) the old retired versions don't show this info on the preview screen... that feature wasn't implemented until QU.
So you could use Print To File for a test... before you print if you are in Pro or Studio.

IE. Info tick box for prints mentioned by Fred in reply #4
I've used this feature for years.
I've just checked some prints going back to 2003 and 2002 and I have file names at the bottom of the prints.
I reasonably sure I was on Qimage Pro then, I don't think Studio had been introduced.

OK, I found it in QImage Studio under Page Formatting --- Print Image / File Info.  It's actually more accessible in Studio than with QU. I've just never needed the option and hadn't run across it before.

I now have QImage Ultimate, but still use Studio a lot because I'm more used to it and because I often need to go back to the old Studio job log to reprint something. Is it possible to merge my Studio job log into QU?

On behalf of Al, thanks for all your help.  We managed to resolve the issue.  Al was using a template through Custom layout and it seemed to get in the way of what he wanted to do.  Yes, it should have worked but I suspect he had unintentionally got lost in the complexities of Custom and Template.  Starting with a clean page, and no evidence of an existing template showing on the screen he got it to work.  Remarkable patience on Al's part, most people have had a good rant at Qimage in his situation but he never cast aspersions on the program and just got on with finding a solution.

All he needs to do now is work out how to register here. He has tried and tried emailing but can't find a reply.  I fancy that one is down to Mike.

His spam filter, probably on his providers server, is likely to be the cause of the problem. He needs to check what has been rejected and retrieve Mike's e-mails. Mike's address should be put on the White list and then, if required, ask Mike (nicely  Wink ) to re-send.
