Title: Downloading thumbnails, several folders together?
Post by: Sandy on November 13, 2009, 08:38:09 PM
Like many, I misuse Qimage by using it for far more than just printing (thanks Mike).  So, when as now I have come back from a trip I have a thousand or more images in a number of folders and I want to view/sort/adjust/print via Qimage.  So far as I can tell I have to download each folder to Qimage individually to see the thumbnails.  Is there any way I can set all the folders to be downloaded together - and let the computer get on with it while I do something else?

Sandy, just to be clear, I assume you mean "open" each folder and "build" thumbnails; you are not downloading from a flash card, that's already done?
As far as I know, you have to open one folder at a time, let the thumbs build before going to another folder to do the same. In similar circumstances, I try to arrange to have no more that 150 to 200 images in a folder.
Nice idea though, kind of background thumb building, maybe Mike will comment.

No, it's not misuse, just using a simple work flow, raw to a quality print in as few steps as possible  ;D

Terry-

I read it as 'is there some way to open the files from multiple folders on one screen?'

Sorry for the ambiguities.  Terry is correct, I have downloaded from flash card to the PC and want to build thumbnails from a number of folders.  It can be a bit of a pain waiting for thumbnails to build from each one so it would be nice to put several folders in a queue and let the computer and Qimage churn away at building the thumbnails whilst I did something else.

I did suggest this when Mike was seeking additions to his wishlist some months ago - but probably equally ambiguously.

Might one put them directly into the Thumbs folder of Qimage?  I haven't dared experiment.

I'm afraid that you do have to wait for each folder to build thumbs in turn. But the good news is it is only done once. Once built, the thumbs appear instantly the next time the folder is opened  :)

Qimage is now very quick at building thumbs, you can speed it up by reducing the quality and size settings in preferences. I use medium and medium.

Not really sure what you mean here, where would the thumbnail images come from? Qimage builds it's own thumbs and they are linked to the images within the program such that if you move, copy or delete and image, the thumbs are dealt with appropriately. So, the answer is no.  ;)
