Hello.
First post here.
Looking into printer profiles etc. I created one with Vuescan which was called printer.icc.  In Qimage I tried to use this profile under Color Management (ICC) but neither Windows or Utility could 'see' the profile until I selected 'All files' then the browser was able to see the profile and I could use it.
Why should that be when it is a .icc file?

Where have you located the profile? If it is the wrong folder, and the .icc extension is "not expected", then that could be the problem.
In Windows (XP & Vista), profiles are in C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color
Also, profiles need to be "installed"; right click on the file and select "install" from the menu list. I think that also places the file in the correct location, but not absolutely sure.

Hi Terry and thank you for your welcome and reply.
I had copied the .icc profile to the Windows XP Pro C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color folder but had not installed it.
(Didn't know I had to Wink  Anyway, installing the profile has made no difference as I can only select it from the browser window when I select 'All' and not 'Printer'.  Also did a reboot but that made no difference.
It's no problem using 'all' but I just wondered why Qimage could not see the .icc file when that was the format QI should be looking for.
Any further light on this puzzle would be appreciated.

The answer here seems to be the decision Qimage is making as to whether your profile is monitor, printer, or none of the above.
Will need Mike to explain how Qimage decides this.

Hello Fred and thanks.  I had selected 'printer' from the drop down menu which did not find the profile. Only 'all' worked for me. Huh?

John,
I see also that selecting an improper profile from that box (meaning putting a monitor profile in place as a printer profile) results in Qimage showing that in RED LETTERS when you click Open.
That is saying to me that Qimage is reading something internal in the file and decides/knows that you are tring to use a monitor profile as a printer profile, etc.
It's not just the suffix of the file.
Let's wait for Mike.

VueScan unfortunately doesn't create real printer profiles.  It creates simple matrix profiles that are really only appropriate for monitors or scanners.  If you look inside the .icc file that VueScan creates, they are even labeled "mntr" or "scnr" which tags them as input profiles and as such, they are not appropriate for output (printer) profiles.  That's why you have to select "All" in Qimage: because the profiles that VueScan creates are not labeled as printer profiles.  The matrix type profiles that VueScan creates can be used with printers if you (as you do) override the warning... they'll work but not very well.  Better to use a real printer profiling tool for such a task as the simple matrix profiles just aren't accurate enough.  My view on that, however, is admittedly biased.  Smiley
