For quite some time, I have had trouble matching prints to the monitor.  I built a new computer and moved from XP to Win 7 and hoped the issue would be solved, (not the reason I built the computer) but it is not.  I am running Win 7 and printing with Qimage PE v2010.208.  I rarely print anymore, so I’m a little behind with software, but it used to work, and it should still work.  My prints came out with a magenta tint to them, now they seem to be coming out with a green or blue tint to them.  It’s hard to tell.  Monitor is a LaCie 324 and is calibrated with the i1 Display Pro.  I never used to have problems, but for years I’ve been battling with the problem, and just can’t seem to resolve it.  I used to be able to get it close by playing with the color channels before printing, but I can’t do that anymore.

I am printing with an Epson 2200 using the Epson Premium Semi Gloss paper and the profile that Epson has on their site.  What could be causing this color problem?

Hi Gary,
Always the first question on this sort of problem:
Have you run a nozzle check? Blocked nozzles are often the cause of inconsistent colours.

A nozzle check is the first thing I do before printing.  I will say that there is always a space in the magenta nozzle check.  It is always in the same place.  It’s a small space.  Can not get rid of that, so I ignore it.   Been doing that for a long time.  At least for the last couple of years or more.

How do you set the driver when you attempt to print with the Epson Profile?

I read that you played with the color channels, I assume in the Epson driver?

I normally have the drivers both set like the Qimage driver in the screen shot, but this morning changed it to what you see in the screen shot and seemed to get a little better result.

I played with the “Channel Mixer” in Photoshop.

If you set up a profile in Qimage, then there are two placed that must match
The Printer Profile placed in Qimage, and the Color management turned off in the Driver.  (There is only one driver as I'm sire you know, just two ways to get there)

Set it this way, and find an image to use as a test print, which you know has no color cast (White Balance is accurate).
Now make a test print.  Look at the print using a good light source (not the fluorescent lights in the kitchen) , if you still have a magenta or green cast, the we are back to what Terry advised in the first reply.
Most likely clogged nozzles.

Here's something to try.  Time to upgrade to the new Qimage Ultimate.  Ultimate contains the UNCLOGGER which uses a minimum amount of ink and plain paper to help to unclog nozzles.

You need the new Qimage anyway, and this plus a ton of good stuff comes free with it.
By the time you run enough cleaning cycles  wasting all that ink, the cost of three ink cartridges buys you a new Qimage Ultimate.

This is where I get confused.  I can access the driver thru the Epson controls, and have something completely different than if I access it thru the Qimage controls.  If I set the two like I showed in my last screen shot (which I tried yesterday and got good results) it seems to work.  If I set them both to look like the Qimage screen shot (on the right) then I get horrible results.

If I set them both to be what I have in my Qimage screen shot, isn’t that what is known as “double profiling”?  A term I have always had trouble with.

For what it’s worth, I only make a few prints this time of year for customers.  Very small amounts compared to what I used to print.  It’s to the point to where it costs me more to do this than I make from it.  The printer sits idle for the rest of the year, so I’m interested in making what I have work.

I will assume for the moment that when you say access the driver the through Epson Controls, you are referring to access through the Printers and Devices screen.

The driver settings in screen snap 059 is from the access through the Epson selection in Devices and Printers.
This is the default settings. That means, anytime you send something to that printer, those are the settings it will use; unless you give the driver different instructions.

In  snap 060, you see the SAME driver with different instructions that override the default settings, to be used when you use a special paper, and special color instructions like when you use a printer profile in Qimage, as shown in a previous email.
Qimage REMEMBERS the driver settings you last used and will open keeping the same settings from last time used.
It also allows you to SAVE all those settings in a Printer setup. That includes, paper, profile, size, color settings, etc.

Summary.
Just set the driver through Qimage and that's what you use for printing photos.
If the driver is set to No Color Adjustment, then you cannot double profile.

Just remember whatever you set in the Driver while in Qimage, will be saved by Qimage and used when printing from Qimage.
Other programs need to be set before using or else the printer will use the default settings from 059.
