Hello,

I would have thought this would be easy, but I keep banging my head for some reason. I am sure it is something simple I am overlooking, but brain freeze has taken over!

I am simply trying to print two 8x10's and one 16x20 on a custom 24x27 inch page size and I will be darned if I can get Qimage to make its forced borders go away so each print is being cut off on the width side by a portion.

Basically I don't want Qimage to add any margins as there is enough paper on all sides.

Why can't I get it to stop putting margins on the "template"?

Thank you,
Derek

Page margins are put there by the printer driver not Qimage; it's the driver that specifies the printable area and Qimage "reads" those.
We need some more information; I maybe mis-interpreting your problem. Is this really a page margins problem? If an image does not fit on the page, Q will place it on a new page, unless you are in Freehand placement mode.
Are you actually talking about "borders" around each prnt/image or the complete page?

The other possible interpretation of what you have said is the image is being cropped; the crop scissor button is down and because the image aspect ration is different from the specified print size ratio, it will be cropped. Click the crop button off.
How have you specified your print sizes, using Qimage drop down list/custom size, or embedded image size?
What printable area is reported above the page preview on the main screen.

Can you attached/insert a screen shot of the Qimage screen, especially the rhs?
Tell us some more and we'll try to resolve this one.
Terry.

Derek,
Same problem here to understand what you are trying to accomplish.
Obviously, the arithmetic may just fit... but that depends on the printer brand and model, and and printer mode.
We would appreciate it very much if you could provide
Printer model
Printer mode.... Try borderless.
Placement mode.. try compact

One screen snap of your main screen as Terry suggested, would get the answer for you in a jiffy.

Working with the HP Z3100 Qimage detracts the default margins of the printer. Working in metric units sometimes it helps to setup a measure of 19,99 cm instead of 20 cm. Just play around... do I have to send a bottle of red wine from Piedmont to shorten the trial&error time?   Cheesy

Thomas,
Working with a Z3100 in critical setup sizes is like a famous chef cooking on a new Z3100 stove where all of his creations taste like Fish!!
Just Joking!!!   All you guys.... (but isn't there always a grain of truth buried inside all humor?)
I read and reread, I don't see a mention of a Z3100  in Derek's post.

If he does have a Z3100, we will need Ernst to set him up.

Sounds as though it should work on any printer without issue.  No template.  If the border buttons are set to "0.00" it shouldn't be an issue.  I would just make sure the 8x10's are rotated to print horizontally and set to Optimal/Spaced.

I will try.
Using an Epson 9800 as a test printer for that size, it works fine.
Optimal Spaced, paper size user defined as 24.03 x 27.03. Borderless mode.
I have 2 8 x 10s and a 16 x 20 easily positioned on the page.
See snaps!

Either way, we don't have any/enough information to help very much!

Evening,

Yes I am using an HP Z3100 24 inch and from all the kind people here added I guess I must make sure each time I print that I set the HP driver to Borderless. Sorry seems a bit odd to me for some reason and not really sure I can explain why kinda like looking at a word you have spoken and written thousands of times, but it still does not look right when it stares back from the page!

Anyway I will try the borderless option as suggested while I wait for my new rip software to be delivered.

Thanks to all for the suggestions and humor!

@Derek, can you keep us informed about the RIP software? Before getting Qimage I was looking for this kind of software, but spending a lot of money only for an enhanced printer driver didn't convince me. On the printer forum of Luminous Landscape I learned a lot about the Z3100, Fred Dinkla and Neil Snape explained a lot about the Z series.

Another source is the Unofficial HP z3100 User Info at http://z3100users.wikispaces.com/

Derek,
Borderless is required in order to have the room for 16" from the 16 x 20 and the 8" from the 8 x 10 to fit inside the 24" paper size. Other wise the driver reports 23.75 x 26.75 as printable area and there isn't enough printable are to accommodate the three.
With borderless set to on, we pick up the extra print room needed on the page. You then have 16" + 8"  which will fit inside of 24"

There is another way to do it without borderless.
Insert a print 16 x 20 into the queue.
Then click the little "F" top right of the preview panel. That puts you in freehand mode.
Using the mouse, drag the large image toward the top left corner, leaving room at the bottom to add two more 8 x10s.
Now, deselect the prints (right mouse on the preview panel) and then set print size to 8 x 10.
Manually drag the two images that will be 8 x 10 prints onto the preview screen, and position to suit your taste. A little salt and pepper, and print!!

No need to use borderless all the time, only when your sizes of prints will not fit.
As to the Z3100, I will leave the tricks and tips, tweaks and stuff to Ernst Dinkla and Tom Kruger.

Hope this helps.

You can still use optimal -spaced without the freehand option.  Just use the green rotate buttons to left of the borders as you add each image.  This gives more trim area around each image because the 16+8" sides are well within the 27" length.

Morning,

Need to mess around more, but I did try borderless last night late and to no avail as I still have issues where the width of both the 8x10 and 16x20 were altered even though there is plenty of white space around the existing prints.

Anyway I will see what I can figure out this morning and update as needed.

As for Wasatch I am only really getting it to be better able to match spot/process colors from vector graphics programs like Illustrator etc. Qimage is a fine printing software to be sure. It would be nice if printer manufacturers put as much effort into their software as DDI does!

Thank you for the help,
Derek

All joking aside, that Z3100 printer does many devilish tricks.
Try Qimage Help/Reset Printer, and then try your settings.

One thing is for sure. Whatever print size Qimage says is going to the printer; lower left area below the thumbs, rest assured that is the size that goes to the printer.
What the Z3100 decides to change in the process after it gets the correct print sizes, is know only to a few on the planet.
Ernst is one of them.
Where are you when we need you?  Wink
