I appreciate the contributions that Mike and Fred have already made towards a solution to this problem.

After working normally for a couple of weeks today the print started normally and then stopped printing and wound out a large amount (3 or 4 meters) of blank paper.   (See my earlier post).

I need the current 64bit architecture as I often process & print large files.  The increased speed to process a batch of prints, and in spooling, is also nice to have.

Has anyone experienced similar problems with a 9800 with Qimage on a Win7 64 bit machine?  Any further suggestions or workarounds? 

Should I go back to 32bitXP & set aside the Win7 machine until the OS and Epson drivers “mature”?

Here’s a summary of what far I’ve checked and double-checked so far:

"Enable Advanced Printing Features":

       is  not checked

QImage:Edit:Printing Options Format is set to:

      RAW – Large Prints:

     
“after moving to Windows 7, your Qimage saved jobs and saved print settings will not be compatible with the ones you saved/used in XP/Vista because Windows 7 driver settings are not compatible with XP/Vista driver settings”

     The Win7 machine is running a fresh install of Qimage.  Every job and print setting is freshly created under Windows 7.

“Spool is empty and cleared of all debris before printing”:

     Nothing is showing in the Epson Spool Window.

“unplug the power cord from the printer to the wall, and wait a minute, and plug it back in”

     Did that prior to print run.

“suspect the driver.... so I have to ask whether you downloaded the W7 driver from Canon (Epson) and was it a match for your 32 or 64 bit Windows 7”:

     Epson Driver:  v 6.50 64 bit version (epson12538.exe)
     This driver is compatible with Win7 64 bit (according to Epson).

Epson 9800 firmware:

     Was at SW0075A.800
     Updated to SW01475.800 (Epson states that this is the current version).

One more tip: Qimage is not able to set EMF/RAW via "Edit", "Preferences", "Printing Options" when using Win7.  You'll have to do that manually in Win7 by going to Control Panel, Printer Properties, and setting the spool type to raw there.  Win7 does not allow programs to set the EMF/RAW settings any more.

Also, when this happens, does Qimage process the job all the way (to 100% on the progress bar)?  If so, you have to look outside of Qimage for the issue.  If Qimage is processing the entire job all the way to the end, the problem lies with the driver or the OS.
