Someone mentioned a few weeks ago a cutout for aligning UK passport pictures. I've searched in the yahoo forum, but can't find a reference to it. Can anyone give me a pointer?

Hi,
I was me who suggested using the cutout approach.
I have uploaded the cutout image to my Pbase gallery here http://www.pbase.com/tjm04/image/113679381
The 2 ovals represent the max & min positions for the top of the head and the chin. with a print size of 45x35 mm.
You should download the official guidelines from gov.uk if not you've already done so.
Link: http://www.ips.gov.uk/passport/downloads/photos.pdf

When you use the cutout, it's necessary to set the filter crop to the 45 - 35 ratio and adjust its size and position so that the image fits the cutout template. When done, delete the cutout from the filter before printing.

I made a template for an A4 page of passport photos

Terry.

Edit: there is some more guidance here; http://www.ips.gov.uk/passport/guidelines-photos-professional.asp

Mike
I turn out 2 or 3 a week - my method doesn't use cutouts:

Set the print size to 45x35mm - I also use a 5mm white border outside and
corner marks to make trimming easy.

In the page editor with 'Rule of Thirds' on the distance between the top of
the frame and the second 'Thirds' line is 30mm - exactly right for the
crown-to-chin measurement, which has to be between 28 and 35 mm - its easy
to do this -see

then all you do is drag the image down

The finished result:

I've saved this as a template and it makes passports really easy. We do
several a week, and without this it would not be worthwhile.

Brian,

NICE writeup!  Being able to do the writeup and insert pictures is one reason I love this forum.  I think your post will go a long way to help people who want to do passports in Qimage.

Thanks,
Mike
