How can I setup the printer settings in Qimage to print an 11*14 image on 13*19 paper?
I want to have the image centered on the 13*19 piece of photo paper.

The reason I am printing 11*14 is because it is easier for me to purchase a frame with a standard matte at a local chain.

Step 1. From with in Qimage set up your driver for the 13x19 paper size; if this is not listed you will have to create a custom paper size. Make sure all your other driver settings are correct too.
Step 2. Create a Custom Print size in Qimage from the Print Properties drop down, choose Custom and Enter Specific size.
Step 3. Select Centre Placement
Step 4. Double click or drag the image from the thumbs to get it into the queue. Done.
A warning:
If your printer page margins are not equal (driver feature) then the image may not actually be central on the page but central within the printable area. You can check this in the full page editor Size/Position tab.
Either tweak the position there or use Page Formatting, Margins, Centre on Physical Page. This latter method will equalise the margins and reduce the printable area accordingly.

Terry,

Thank you. I kept missing the center placement option. I was pulling my hair thinking it was something more complicated than it was.

Thanks again. I think I've got it now.

Next step is to figure out why I keep getting a print error stating the image cannot be printed because of the paper tray. But I'll have to play with that when I get home tonight.

I was able to setup the printer settings with Terry's help.

BTW, things have been pretty quiet on the upgrade front? Could something big be coming maybe?

Just an extra 2 cents worth...
I do the same thing; print 11 x 14 for premade 16 x 20 frames that come with an 11 x 14 matte.
I use A3 paper which is far less expensive than 13 x 19.

I don't know why but it just occurred to me, what does everyone do. Do they make the print 11-1/4 x 14-1/4 so it fits under an 11 x 14 opening in the mat, or do they make the print 11x14 and then make the opening 10-1/4 x 13-1/4? When you buy precut mats how are the openings sized? I generally cut my own mats so I've never had much of an issue with this. I generally print to the even sizes (i.e. 11 x 14) and make the openings on the mat the appropriate size. What is the acceptable practice?

All the precut mattes that I bought were already sized at 10 3/4 x 13 3/4 allowing for the installing of the 11 x 14.
I printed an 11 x 14 last week for a neighbor who bought her own frame with matte, and that was the case with her matte too.

Hey Fred, been a very long time. You helped me with my very fist Qimage problem about 5-6 years ago.......

I like using the Ilford Galerie 13*19, just in case a clients wants something that large for framing/printing. And I hate cutting paper myself so I'll just mount the photo in the matte and frame it with something from Michaels or AC Moore (chain arts  & crafts stores in the US) that looks nice.

If a client wants something specific in a frame or something along those lines, I will take it to the store for mounting and charge accordingly.

Once I am done this pack of Ilford though, I am moving on to Red River paper. I love it and have really been getting into their Polar Gloss series. I've been using the Satin paper but most parents like the glossy look over the satin. Wifey likes the satin paper so I keep some on hand for her.

And I don't mean to be stupid here, but the A3, A4 sizes really mess me up. I wish the drivers would report the paper sizes in a better way that would be easier to a knucklehead like myself to understand.

Quick question, is there a way that I can create a custom template for my original question. I am looking for it now while I have some down time in the office. I am talking about in the print properties box.

You can do a template if you wish. That might contain your logo or a sinature on the bottom of the print. It also might have a set of other size prints for the order.

If you just want a set up that you don't have to fumble-fart around to reproduce, simply click FILE SAVE, and click the "P" button for printer. Then name your setup like:
11 x 14 on 13 x 19 Ilf.
Save.

Anytime you want to use that setup, just click File and RECALL, tick the "P" button, and select that saved setup by name.
It will set the driver settings, the profile if you use them, the paper size, the print size, the orientation, crop on or off; exactly the way it was when you last printed and saved the setup.

I also am metrically challenged. The good news is that the US size is on the package. A3 11.7 x 16.5 inches.
(You are giving away my age) :-)

Definitely the easiest way to do it.  I regularly produce photo note cards in sets of four.  When I need to produce a new set, I simply recall any one of the several existing jobs, plug in the new photos, and save the new job under the appropriate name.  Couldn't be simpler.

Also note Fred's related post today on the Automated Job Log, which explains how you can recover your settings even if you didn't save the job.  Can you believe that we get all this for $100?
