Title: Qimage One setting media type
Post by: Robsm on October 13, 2018, 10:29:38 PM
Qimage One, Epson 9070, mac, Photoshop CC.

I'm new to Q1, old hand at QU. When I go to Q1 printer settings, media type and choose Velvet Fine Art, the printer properties button has a warning sign. I click the button and set my printer to - Sheet, Velvet Fine Art, Matte Black, Advanced B&W photo. When I click OK, the Qimage media type switches itself to Premium Luster Photo Paper. I've tried Reset Program Settings. I have reinstalled software. What's going on?

Hi Rob,

I will install and test that driver and get back to you.

Hi Rob,

I have been doing some research and here is what I know so far:

This issue seems to be happening with several Epson drivers. The problem seems to be that Qimage One is setting values in the driver and not all of them are being respected when the driver is opened by the operating system. Media type primarily being the problem one.

I don’t yet have a solution, but there is a workaround which you can try. This only seems to happen when you have not yet selected a validated media type. For example, if you click Properties, and find the media type is incorrect, select it in the driver and select OK. Subsequent selections of the media type in Qimage One do appear to be respected when the driver is re-opened.

There is a secondary problem where some Epson drivers have the same media type name repeated internally, but display only one in the driver dialog. This creates a problem because the duplicated names have unique numeric IDs. It’s possible that Qimage One picks the first Plain Paper which might have index 0 and the driver picks Plain Paper index 78. This creates a disconnect between the two.

I am working on a solution to this which would involve listing all media types (including duplicates) with a name decoration to show that they are duplicates). At least this way it should be possible for the media selected in the driver to be updated in Qimage One.

I will keep you updated on my progress.

Andrew

Thanks Andrew. The workaround you suggested is the same conclusion I came too. Most of the time it works, occasionally, if I have to double check properties for some reason, the ink has switched itself to 'photo black', but other settings are remembered. It's not a huge issue now that the workaround works. Cheers Rob
