Since Terry seems to like his flashing image, has anyone found a way to disable it in their browser?

I use Chrome and have installed a couple of different utilities that claim to stop animated gifs, but Terry flashes on unabated.

Flashing images can effect different folk in different ways - from not even noticing, through annoyance to physical/mental effects -see http://www.bbc.co.uk/editorialguidelines/page/guidelines-harm-flashing-images/ and other references. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosensitive_epilepsy and links give more background information, including legislation covering more serious cases on the web and elsewhere.

The link refers to epilepsy, in the main, that can be triggered by flashiing lights, etc. I was pointing out, that some folk are effected _more_ than others. Just because you can't see a problem, flashing lights have no effect on you, does not mean it does not effect others, plus, it's a question of freedom of choice for the viewer. For a static avatar, you can more easily ignore it, but for most folk, their peripheral vision is most sensitive to movement, so a flashing light at the edge of a screen, even if said light is small, will be an irritation to them. Personally, it doesn't bother me, (at least not physically), but that does not mean it may not bother others, and before your penultimate post, the problem was solved for the op - it was just that you appeared to assume that because Terry's avatar caused no disturbance to you, then it should not disturb others. Your initial response to Tom's request, was basically taking the piss, whereas if you knew that the avatars could be turned off, you could have replied accordingly.

The reason I give links is because generally it saves time in summarising the content, gives the reader more background information, avoids plagiarism, etc., and a chance for all of us to learn of other things. 

I do not normally use avatars, I generally view them as gimmicky/puerile, but sometimes I'll use an image of my dog, or other animal, if it aids identity, and I've got something I think is worth saying.
