Title: Thanks to Mike and QI!! Another winner
Post by: Seth on July 15, 2009, 12:36:20 AM
I got hit with a short-term rush project for a 4-H'er.  Of course, she went on vacation and left her mother (also a photog) to get the entry in (don't they all?)

Anyway, it was a color pic that really didn't work so we went B&W.  With the Epson ABW and MIS Eboni black I wasn't too worried, but I knew PS couldn't pull it out on the printing side.  PS gave the History Brush to add just a touch (the less is more thing) of USM in the face.  Also, HB again using lightening and darkening Curves for the hair.  All the time--as I said in another post--I was anticipating the Smart Sharpen and interpolation of QImage.  (I NEVER change the size coming out of the D300 and D3's!!)

Anyway, into QI, no profile and set the Epson for ABW.  Just a touch dark and flat since my first test was on a whiter paper.  QI edit saw just a Contrast+3 and Gamma+2.  My ABW is set to -12 and -19 on the color wheel in the Epson to keep a cool black.  Smart Sharpen at 6 because she was a touch soft.  Bingo.  Sharp where it should be; normal where it should be.

The mother reports the judge loved the tones in the face and hair and the fact that the surrounding logs had tones but not "sharpened."

She got a blue ribbon and honor group so far.  THANKS MIKE!!

(Good thing I didn't have more time; I might have over worked it.)

Thanks for sharing!  This makes me wonder if maybe we should have a category for "Qimage Experiences" or something to encourage people to share things like this.  I love these because it gives me some insight into how people use the software.  In turn, that help me make Qimage even better.

Sounds like a great idea for folks to share what the do with Qimage and how it heps them
Also might like a place to ask... How do I do this...?
