Mike recommends the Enable advanced printing features be un-checked:

On my machine Enable advanced printing features re-checks itself every time the machine
is restarted. Do I need to remember to manually un-check it every time I restart?
Is there a way to have the un-check condition stick permanently?

Keep in mind Qimage can control that too, so maybe it's Qimage that is setting it back. In Qimage, see "Edit", "Preferences", "Printing Options" and look at the spool type at the bottom. Set it to raw there. See if that prevents it from going back.
