v2009.260     06/16/09

Priority: Low

v2009.260 includes the following:

    * Thumbnail builder: Revised thumbnail builder is faster, more efficient, and allows for smooth scrolling of the thumbnail grid while the thumbs are building.
    * Color management: ICM engine updated to latest release to ensure the highest possible quality when working with ICC profiles.
    * JPEG saving/conversion: When saving or batch converting to JPEG images, Qimage will now use a higher quality compression when JPEG quality is set to 98, 99, or 100%.

For months I have complained that QI locks on one thumbnail in a series (if the thumbnail size is moderate or large) and keeps repeating that thumbnail instead of showing correctly for the later files. Mike has kept insisting the problem is with my video card not QI. Now, with this version of QI, and its new thumbnail building algorithm, the problem no longer appears and all the files have their thumbnails displayed correctly in the large mode. I guess, with sufficient patience, even mountains move.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the problem was/is your video card.  The new version simply uses a different method to draw the thumbnails, thus avoiding the video driver bug.  So rather than moving the mountain, we just paved a new road around it.

Well put. Regardless, the problem is now gone so thanks for that Mike.

So when building thumbs for the first time it all works very nicely and better than before, but for me (and I'm thinking it might be a video issue:-) when I visit a folder which already has thumbs built, I see nothing until I click in the thumbnail area. This is somewhat disconcerting, but not a problem when you know about it. But I'm just wondering if this is the expected behaviour.

A further potential confusion is that to get the images to display you have to click on where there IS an image. So if you have a folder with only a few images, such that they wouldn't fill the pane, clicking in the bottom right doesn't do anything.

The work around is obvious... always click in the top left.

However, this IS rather time consuming, when searching for particular images, since rather than just clicking through a series of folders to see if they are the ones you want, you have to click the folder then click the thumbs then back to the folder then back to the thumbs.

I can't imagine you would have been happy with this Mike, which is why I suspect it is an artefact of my system.

Hmmmm...

I temporarily installed Qimage on my laptop, and tried it there. Same thing. So maybe it isn't a driver issue after all.

I'm working on the fix now.  I'll see if I can have 261 available before the iPhone 3.0 update goes live.  Wink
