v2010.104     12/01/09

Priority: Low

v2010.104 includes the following:

    * Added an option to print center marks and fold marks in borders to assist with canvas wraps.
    * Fixed a bug that was causing a problem with sizing of test strips under some situations such as when specifying a test strip width that is larger than the original print size.
    * Swapped the zoom in/out of the mouse scroll wheel when using the image examiner/comparator so that it matches other software.
    * Disabled the "Canvas Edge (Stretch)" option for border 2 as the option should only be available for border 1.

Ray was a big help.  There may have been a little frustration along the way as Ray tried to explain things about canvases that I didn't understand and I demanded "why" answers for things Ray couldn't explain.  But I think the cavas features are pretty much "wrapped" up for now.  Wink

Just a minor point. If you decide to use a No. 2 border in addition to the No.1 wrap, the guide marks go to the outer border. That may not have been what was intended, both needed maybe?

It will be a few hours before I can try it out, but I am indeed very pleased that the software has been adjusted. So thanks, Mike.  Smiley

Terry's template is not wasted, since it allows extra manipulations to take place, and it gives me the opportunity to discover why my template did not work so well.

So, as far as I can see, everyone wins.  Grin

That's as intended.  The marks should always be on the outer-most border because they should be at the edge of what you intend to cut.  If you only use one border, they'll be inside that border.  If you use two, they'll be in the outer border.

Mike, in one word: Perfect!

One or more patches from one image or more images. Forgot to add the crop movement possible. Fast and reliable. Less wasted paper in the world. Thank you.

The Borders work fine for me, together with the additional templates that I can create based on Terry's efforts, I think I can do everything now needed. Thanks Mike for promptly adding the fold line option.

I can't for the life of me remember how I was supposed to carry out the test strip creation  Cry  Maybe later  Sad

Best wishes,

Ray

Ray, I'm ok. on the normal method but puzzled as to how this works:

when specifying a test strip width that is larger than the original print size.
Although it's not something I'm likely to use maybe Mike can explain the process please. I don't like not understanding  Huh?

As Ernst has already said, the test strip works fine now, even for me  Roll Eyes

Hi Terry,

In the other thread the problem was that the image was distorted if the page size was bigger than the image in one direction. When printing to roll material, you do not want to keep changing it for different sizes, and you do not particulary want to keep entering precise image/page sizes when not needed.  Based on what Mike said in that other thread, this is what I do, and it works.

I have a page set to more or less 17inches by 5 inches (17in is the roll width) in the printer settings, and  then a bottom margin of 3 inches to give a printable area of about 17inches by 2inches. This is saved as a template. (the minimum length printable on the printer without margins is just under 5ins, and the bottom margin allows less material being wasted than if it were a top margin or centred, whatever.)

If I want a test strip, I drop any image into that page setting, and answer 'yes' to the 'printing over more than one page' question, then I go to the full page editor, select the crop icon, then slide the image in the cropping window to select the strip required to be printed, click 'done', and then print. Prior to Mike's recent fix, it did not work in this manner.

Best wishes,

Ray

Ray, Thanks for the explanation.
What I'm still vague about is when the test strip is wider that the final print, the test strip is then printed at a different resolution to the final print?
A final print of 15" with a 3000 pixel image is 200 ppi but a test strip 17" wide is 176 ppi. Is this what you expect?
I still have it in my head that a test strip is printed at the same resolution as the final print.  Roll Eyes

Hi Terry,

The width is the same for the area with the ink on it - the printed area is say 3 inches high by 15 inches wide on a 17inch wide  paper roll for the test strip, cf 20 inches high by 15inches wide on the same 17 inch wide paper roll for the final print.  The test strip should be the same as slicing up the full size print. The dpi should be the same, if Mike's got it right.

The confusion is probably due to the multi meanings for things like print, image, etc.

Best wishes,

Ray

Terry,

What you describe is what used to be the case since the aspect ratio bug was removed. The crop would fill out to the length of the strip and cut on the other dimension. Like Auto cropping still does and in that sense not usable like I wrote before. Since 104 however it is only cut off on the shorter print page dimension and keeps the original image size on the other dimension as selected on loading. A crop 1:1 on the scale to the final print.
