Title: Web copies increasing file size Post by: Anthony on October 23, 2009, 09:56:56 AM A number of photos actually increase in size when I reduce the resolution. For example, a photo at 2592 x 1944 with a file size of 876 KB ends up with a file size of 1047 KB when reduced to 1024 x 768 (save quality 100). Why is this?
Many thanks - Anthony Title: Re: Web copies increasing file size Post by: Terry-M on October 23, 2009, 10:07:29 AM Quote For example, a photo at 2592 x 1944 with a file size of 876 KB ends up with a file size of 1047 KB when reduced to 1024 x 768 (save quality 100). Why is this? That is because the original file was created with a low jpeg "quality" setting. If it is one direct from camera, I suggest you look to see if there is a higher quality setting available on the camera.Terry. PS. re-saving at 100% does not improve the quality; re-saving jpeg's always degrades them. You didn't mention what format your 876 KB file was, before you downsized, but assuming it too was a JPG, the Quality setting of that JPG save might not have been as high and as good as what was used in the Qimage save at a setting of 100. Appreciate your help, both you and Fred

I believe that most cameras will give higher ressolution JPGs when set to fine. So besides getting a larger file size, you should be getting a higher quality (higher resolution) image using fine.Fred |
