1  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Mntr Profile Setting on: October 28, 2020, 05:18:05 PM
Under Printers and settings tab/job properties/Display/Mntr Profile does it matter what the setting is when using Windows 10? I am using dual monitors that both have been profiled using xrite i1 Studio. I notice that the profile shown does not change if I drag the program screen to the other monitor. (IE the program opens on the LG screen and I drag it to the larger AOC screen.) I can change the selection to the profile for that monitor but it doesn't seem to matter. My question what is the best setting? Should I just select "off" for the Mntr Profile.
Thanks, Jason

Thanks, that may be the best option on the next batch.
3  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Hints for FAST image editing? on: October 11, 2020, 09:39:12 PM
I print some for other photographers and I have one or two in particular that when I receive their images they are too dark especially for the matte paper they prefer. Yes, I have offered to send her my profiles for soft proofing but she is not there yet.
I am soliciting ways to speed me going through a group of files and quickly editing them for exposure prior to printing. I do know the basics of editing in Qimage, & most of my personal images are already edited in other software before sending to Qimage I would love to go through them fast like I could in Lightroom Library doing very basic adjustments and moving on to the next image. It would be super duper if I could do those adjustments in soft proofing mode, but I guess that falls more under wish list. I did try the auto exposure print feature on this last batch and it was some help but many were still too dark, so I fear I will really need to adjust most images manually.
Any of you print for others and have advise on speeding edits?
Thanks Jason

Thanks so much for the efforts!
No wonder why you have so many loyal QU followers.
Thank you for the recommendations, I am always looking to improve. I have been using Qimage for just over a year.
May I ask one follow up to your recommendations?
I actually just recently started trying the old pyramid based on my (miss)reading of "help" screens, I had been using the fusion at the default setting. Most of what I print I think would be considered largish files of good quality, 75% portraits, so the cellphone prints in this discussion are the exception. Are there any other recommendations for best print quality. Canon Pro-1000 w/OEM ink used for professional work and Canon pro-100 w/3rd party ink used for play and experimentation. Typically I am using ICC profiles I created with i1Studio.
I look forward to looking closer at your recommendations.
And thanks to Fred for his efforts.
Best wishes, Jason

Thanks Mike,
Below is a link to the actual file used. Please don't go to any trouble, I was able to get the job done. I did figure it is something about that file and its interaction with the other variables.

Thanks for the response Mike. You are always prompt to reply.
It is not a big deal, I was able to print it on my Pro-1000. (Printer in question was pro-100) I was also able to print the same combination using lightroom. I just thought it was interesting. I figured someone would say it was a print spooling issue and indeed it might be, you are the expert after all. However, as I mentioned it also did it when printing only the two images shown (not 40), reversing the order, and then only the one image alone. When I have had what I suspect were network issues the whole page partially prints and the remaining is ejected. In this case, as you see part of the first image did not print always in the same spot, and the second image prints normally. I guess the pro-100 simply does not like spider tattoos.
PS In response to the other kind gentleman, just for fun, I turned the auto-cropping on and it still did the same thing.
PSPS Just for fun I thought I would see what happens when I add a black border to both images. They both print fully with a black border. I take away the border and it goes back to a partial image on the spider only. I turn on raw in spooling as suggested, no change, only part of the spider prints. Smiley
No worries, thanks again.

Thanks for replying
Auto Cropping = off
5x7 print size set in Qimage all 40 images loaded at one time.
When hovering over the image in it says 5x7: 350 ppi  In Qimage editing screen it shows the pixel resolution to be 1748x2447

I was printing about 40 images of tattoos for my daughter, 2 5x7 images per 8.5x11 sheet of landscape paper. All images had been cropped to 5x7 ratio in Lightroom and using Qimage plugin to send all images to Qi. All looked correct on the screen in Qimage. Canon pro-100 with the normal driver (not XPS) as shown in screen capture. All 20 pages printed properly except one image of a spider tattoo, it was cropped almost square. I just thought oh well things happen and reprinted that sheet. It cropped again, even though everything looked correct on the screen. I wondered what would happen if I reversed the order, the spider image still cropped. Then I used the same setup, same computer but printed to my Canon Pro-1000 and it printed just right. I go back to the Canon Pro-100 and it does it again. Just for kicks, I print one ( on Pro-100 using QI) with only the spider tattoo on a landscape letter-size sheet it crops again. Finally, I tried the same two images,  (5x7 on landscape petter size paper) using Lightroom and pro-100 and no problem.
I got the job done using the Pro-1000 but I just found this an interesting problem.

Thank you, it is doing just what I wanted. Now if I can just repeat it. Smiley

Thank you, that does seem to be exactly what I am talking about. I will try again, likely I am missing a step. In previous attempts with a hypothetical 5x5 "cell, template, frame, place holder" the only two outcomes I could get would be the image would crop to fit, which sometimes is okay, or the "cell" would change its size (IE 3.5x5 in my example) to accommodate also changing the layout on the page. The ideal for me is the uncropped image to center in the locked-down never-changing cell.
Thank you again for taking the time Mike. I know you have written a very powerful program, I am just trying to unleash more of your hard work.
I will review and work a little harder.

11  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Custom Layout on: March 12, 2020, 04:36:30 PM
Thanks for the new custom layout features and instructional video.
Is there a way to add CELLs to a layout, not just a print size? Cells like you can do in Lightroom and like you could do in a desktop publishing program or wordprocessor.
I will try to explain what I want to do without illustrations.
On say an 8.5x11 piece of standard paper and using custom layout I place a 5x5 inch CELL. I would like that cell to never change size and never move and when I add an image to that cell it would not be cropped. IE I drop a 2x3 format picture into the 5x5 cell the long side of the picture goes to 5 inches but the short side of the image (appx 3.5) does not crop but is centered in the remaining white space.
The only options that I am able to understand give me the choice of the photo crops to 5x5 or the SIZE would change to approximately 3.5x5 thereby changing my page layout.
In practice I want to have a greeting card template or layout, whatever word you prefer, that never changes and I can add an image that will center itself in the hole.
Thank you very much.

Thank you for your reply.
13  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Plugin on: March 03, 2020, 05:41:36 PM
Thanks so much but it is not part of the file name. If I sent 6 files from Lightroom they would then have the prefix inside brackets [001] - [006]
But thanks so much for taking the time to respond!

14  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Plugin on: March 03, 2020, 03:19:58 PM
Sorry to ask so many questions, but I really am trying to learn the strengths of Qimage, so I do search the videos and "Manual" before I ask a question. I try not to be too lazy to look up, but some things are hard for me to find.
Like using the plugin to send a photo(s) from Lightroom, is there a way to turn off Qimage adding a sequence number to the file name, or at least hide it when using the file name in floating text. In this case, I am sending a landscape from Lightroom to Qimage. I am printing the title and file name but really do not want the [001] showing if possible.
Thanks all.

15  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Please make it forget :) on: February 22, 2020, 03:13:10 AM
On the job properties tab under Printer/Media is there a way to PREVENT it from changing everything just because I change one thing. I get how sometimes if you only use a couple of combinations it might be very helpful, but I would think that is where you want to save your settings.
Let me explain, just now I had everything set up just like I wanted, I was going to make a test print and decided I wanted to print on Canon Matte paper instead of the RedRiver. Everything should stay the same except for the icc profile. But when I change just the ICC profile everything changes to the last time I used that profile. That might be a time-saver for some but a huge time waster for me. Just now I changed one thing and that thing changed the paper size and orientation wasting all my work.  No doubt there is some tick box I have missed to turn this off but I have not found it. I use multiple printers and icc profiles.
Thank you for your information. Apologies in advance if I am missing something obvious.
