INK Cost Matters

Just a thought or two (opinion of course) of the almost obsessive concern over the cost of ink.
I have read here on this forum from people that weigh the cartridges, and GREAT concern over cleaning cycles, built in to the drivers.
Many have based their purchase of a replacement printer based on ink usage and cost per Ml, milliliter.
Got my Canon Pro 100 during a frenzy sales push, and after rebates, free shipping, and free paper, I paid 100 bucks.
Tiny cartridges 13 Ml of ink.
So if I got my printer, and also my best friend from Bradenton got one for about 100 bucks, and with all the technology that is involved in engineering the machine, and marketing, plus profiles, and drivers, etc etc., how can Canon cover all this and make a buck?  INK!

Now back to my point:
As I see it, there are some basic categories of people that print.

1) The print shop.  Printing is their business and needs to show a profit.  They watch ink costs as a bakery watches the price of wholesale flour.

2) The Event printer person. Graduations, from Kindergarten up, proms, weddings etc.  They have to please the customer to get the sale.
You can say, "this is just a proof" and get away with it a couple of times, but you need quality too. So they watch ink costs too, but gotta be good prints.

3) Then there's me. Amateur photographer, and hobbyist... plus printing.
I print and donate them to cancer clinics, and other medical offices, and they give them away free. "Take me home if you like this print."
I am so proud when I get a request for copies from their friends.
I had an 11 x 17 of the famous WWII statue sitting here in Sarasota of the nurse and the sailor hanging in a small restaurant nearby. Every time, I walked in, I have orders for 3 more, next week 4 more.
The prints take your breath away with the perfect color and "life"
It is all due to my Canon Pro 100 and the dye ink and its attention to quality. Sure I hear the innards spinning  and doing some clearing and resetting, and I don't care; I even smile, because I am getting what I want from my printer; perfect prints, best prints possible.

So I really don't give a rat's behind that it is $17.00 for a 13ml cartridge (I get free paper if I buy 4 carts)
So what do you think, am I nuts?

What sort of plug-ins get used in the editor in the Auto-correct group? And why might you want to override the ICC profile at that point?
I am going to try to answer but you have me really smiling.
Way back. Way back, in the 1998s and 99s, Always striving for better and more accurate color, Mike would make PLUG INS for my camera which worked like a personal camera profile. I bought one.
I cannot remember how he made them, but my color improved a lot.
Have to wait for Mike. My memory is not that sharp.

Override the Icc is there, in case.... in case you want to reset the working color space. Some of this stuff is used only under peculiar circumstances. Let's say you get an image from a friend, a TIF perhaps, which was shot in Mongolia with a borrowed camer from a monk. It was saved in an undecipherable color space. You want to start working on it in a reasonably comfortable color space. So you insert the Override. Maybe Adobe RGB, maybe you can even find the matching profile for that camera? Anyway you can reset that.

Fred   Best I can remember.

Also, remember that the ICC override becomes a filter like you added sharpening or contrast. It did not change the image.
19  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Large Format Printing Qimage Reduces Resolution on: November 13, 2020, 04:01:13 PM
Just to clarify for Mike's request from you, he would like to see the live view screen including the information at the top showing printable area with and without borderless. He also wants to see the little white tag that pops open when you hover the mouse over the image in live view.
Just trying to help.
See the numbers at the top of Live view? That is the printable area my driver allows on 13 x 19 paper Normal print.
The lower shot is borderless. See the numbers change?
He also wants the resolution of the image.

Would anybody care to enlighten as to how to do it.
Two ways come to mind instantly.
1) Put image in the queue. Right click and select CONVERT, then in the middle of that dialogue box select the detination using the Browse button. See snap
2) Use Print to file and Q wil ask where you want the file to go.... or let it go and get placed normally, and then COPY to Desktop.
3) I bet Mel has better ways.

I just did two Windows updates to both W 10 machines. New one is SSD. Messed up my network between two W 10s.  It didn't mess up the W 7 machine. That one is visible. I hate  updates!!
Fred

PS I can't remember how to fix it either.

I've looked all over my Qimage web page . . . can you explain how to get to the HDR Tool?
I sent you  screen snap of it.
Just open the Raw Image Refine screen.
It works well, but since the advent of ODR in that refine screen, I never have to even think of HDR.

So why do I end up with 5 separate files?  When I click on any one of them, all I get is an error message.

Help!

You did the same thing here as in the emails with us. These are not saved images from Qimage. These are saved jobs from the qimage save folder.
These are internal files that keep data for your jobs.
The saved images are usually saved in the same folder where the original is saved unless you renamed it and saved in your own choice of location.
THESE ARE NOT SAVED IMAGES

Look carefully at the screen snap here. If you followed the step by step instructions in the email I sent, you would have come across this screen.
See where it is asking for a NAME and at the top it is asking for a save location.
That is where you are  messing up.
Fred

PS Where are you located for a phone LIVE chat?

If you have done this, how did you make it work?  By the numbers please . . . don't leave any instructions out.
Fred,
Yes I have done this when I used to play a bit with other programs.
Click on the item in the utilities drop down.
Then the box opens asking for a file to run. Click the browse button as shown with my cursor arrow.
Now you have to navigate the folders and find the EXE file that runs the program you want to use.

Tried your suggestion and I was able to bring the photo up and WITH the caption . . . that's pretty good, but I want to save the image with the caption to a folder on my desktop, so I can work it or edit it with another photo editing program.  When I try to save it, as I've stated before, I lose the caption.

Thanks for your help.

As I explained in the email with all the steps labeled and in order, that the last image labeled LANDSC4.jpg was the finished product with the text embedded.
It was This can be placed anywhere with text embedded in the image too big to post here so I reduced the  quality to 50% and here it is again.

To verify, I could not have posted the image here if the text was not embedded.

I have spent a good bit of time trying to make a series of Screen snapshow how to print to file. All to big to post here.
Let me try to email. I see you sent me an email
