I don't understand how it works if I tell Qimage that I want 4.25 x 5.25. I need to use one sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper to make two 4.25 x 5.5 note cards - one card folded requires paper 8.5 x 5.5.
8.5x5.5 is too big for 8.5 x 11 paper - you need to take account of the printer margins that make the printable area smaller and QU is telling you that by asking you to make the print size smaller.
See attached screen shot (Epson R2000 printer) and note the difference in size from the page 8.5x11 to printable area of 8.266 x 10.766.
The print size is set to Fit to Page.
Hope that helps.

Dave,
You can why read here too.
http://www.ddisoftware.com/qimage-u/features.htm
As well as printing, raw processing and editing is very good. At least 90% of my prints are direct from the raw image. I occasionally do a bit of cloning or perspective correction in other software (not Adobe!).
QU is King of photographic printing (and Queen if you like).

Hi young Fred

Once I've edited and printed a photo, I want to save it to my picture folder in Windows 10 as a .JPG FILE.  I seem to have a problem doing this
I regularly do this to create a set of downsized images for my online Flickr account (click the round blue icon under my name to the left of this post). I use Create Email copies where I can set the resolution and crop to different aspect ratios using varying print sizes in the queue.
You can downsize using the Convert feature and putting a dot in the "Add Filter" and then set a resolution there.
I find this method best for web copies:-
Add the images to the queue and set the print size according to the crop required. If they've been cropped in the editor, then the size does not matter but the crop scissors must be off.
Right click on the page live view and select "Create E-mail/Web Size Copies". Set the resolution, and for general viewing by others or on the web, tick "convert to sRGB"
See attached screen shot.
The third method available in QU is to Print to File. I use this when I want to make an image for club competition projection and I want an image to have borders - which is a print feature.
Qimage Ultimate is so versatile  Cool

Re. Black level. I would think most users do use auto black level, I do.
Have fun using QU Raw Refine - it's an unusual  interface, drawing rectangles etc. but, I think, better than a load of sliders with strange names.
ODR takes a bit of practice but there's a helpful teaching video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y37FmX0u3yg&feature=youtu.be. Set to 1080p HD. You can access it from QU Refine, click the red V.

Hi CH

Also, are the default settings pretty much generic, or does every camera need a bit of fine tuning?
Possibly. The 2 things I have fine tuned is the sharpening (reduced radius) and Noise reduction (increased a little).
You need to check a number of images with different subjects and lighting conditions to see if anything needs changing. If they do, a little experimentation will be required. Also, don't forget to save the settings for the particular camera.

Hi Mel,
That's always been a problem for me. I check under a strong light with a small but strong magnifying glass.
However, Yellow never seems too be a problem so I don't often do a detailed check.

Very helpful Video Fred  Cool However ....
One for Mike probably ...
I've checked out the new Job Recall feature where the images are no longer in their original location, it works well. I probably won't use it a great deal but it make life easier as I do move the previous year's images to different hard drives for archiving.
I wondered how it would work if the job had images archived on removable media like a DVD. I have a significant number of images stored on DVD's, most of which have been included in the QU Database.
If I do a normal database search using part of a folder name (mine have the date and subject) and the use DVD drive letter as the folder, a result soon appears giving me the CD name etc.
As a test I created a simple print to file job from an old image in a folder on a DVD.
If I recalled the job with the DVD in the drive, it was found ok. If the DVD was not in the drive, it could not be found. Not good as I wouldn't normally know which DVD to load.
The top level folder (and sub folders?) appear to be recorded in the database.
Is it possible that a the search from job data could include information so that the correct DVD could be located?
Maybe I'm not understanding something?

Hi Steve,

How do I change the "Send to" behavior of Qimage?
What you are seeing when you use send to is the thumbnail in it's folder.
To change the Send too behavior with QU use the Edit menu-Preferences-When Images are Dropped into QU - choose Add to Queue.
See attached screen shot and note where the dot is.
I'm surprised you are getting two different behaviors with Send to and Dropping the image onto the page.
Try what I suggest and let us know how you get on.

Raw is law - just did a wedding, all shot in NEF Raw.
Hoping to be able to print HEIC file format pics soon
Whether using jpeg or HEIC you are throwing away a lot of image data by converting to those formats.Editing with less data available is not normally good practice for quality images.

Many of us who use QU for printing, print from the raw file in QU. The raw refine feature in QU is unusual but clever and produces excellent results. The image editor has good features too, like deep focus (no artifacts) sharpening so further improvements can be made there.
Printing from the raw file is the better HD spacer saver as there is no need to create extra images.

42  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Print-to-file and EXIF data on: August 21, 2019, 11:16:38 AM
Hi,
Quote
To make the JPEG this is what I've been doing so far in Qimage. I start with File > Print to File.
My understanding is Print to file does not copy the exif date because P2F can be used for multiple images and the process does not involve exif data.
You could use Exif Tool GUI to copy exif data from the original images:

the old printer should not have been deleted
You could re-install the old printer driver, you don't actually need it physically connected.

Hi George[
quote]When I tweak an image with the full page editor, where are those settings stored?[/quote]
I assume you mean by double clicking to open the IMAGE editor.
Those files are stored in the same folder as the image and are .flt (filter) files.

45  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: RFP (request for proposal) Printing of PDFs on: June 16, 2019, 08:55:01 PM
Most PDF readers have an export feature which allows you export as an image, I use Tracker Software PDF-XChange Editor. There's no colour managent involved though.
