I have just built a new computer, with a new operating system (Windows Cool, and am using a new monitor (Asus PA248Q), and a new camera (RX100). I would like to be sure with this new software, hardware, and reinstall of existing software that my color management system is intact. Here is where I am at:

Camera - Set for sRGB

Monitor - With hardware setup buttons have selected sRGB

AMD Vision - Display software left at default, 6500 K temp.

Windows 8 - Is confusing as there are bunches of settings under advanced color management. However the default display seems to be IEC 61966-2.1 which I believe is standard sRGB.

Photoshop Elements 11 - Color Settings - "Always Optimize Colors for Computer Screens"

Qimage Pro (Used for printing) - Monitor ICC - IEC 61966-2.1, Printer ICC - Let Printer Driver Manage Color

Printer (HP Photosmart Pro B8350) - Typically use HP Premium Plus setting

I'm thinking this will give me sRGB color space all the way through the process until it gets to the printer driver. Correct? Or have I missed something?

The only thing I can see that is inconsistent is the monitor profile setting in Qimage.
You say that sRGB is selected on the monitor set-up buttons, I would think the monitor profile should be set to sRGB too. I don't know about the IEC thing.
I think you could set sRGB in the Windows CM dialogue too, add it to the list of profiles. It's not essential but Q will ask when there is a difference between Windows & Q settings for the monitor.
I can't comment on PS-E settings.

Hi again Ron,
I have been told that IEC 61966-2.1 is sRGB  Roll Eyes
Another point, with using Let Printer driver manage colour you should set  the Driver to ICM. The Help says:
"While this mode of operation will ensure good color even with the "ICM" checkbox unchecked in the driver, it is best to select the "ICM" option in your print driver if that option is available.  Also, if your driver offers settings under the ICM heading, be sure to select "Applied by Printer Software" or its equivalent (do not select "no color adjustment")."

Thanks for the comments.

In Qimage for Printer ICC the only other choices besides "Let Printer/Driver manage color" are:

Off
N/A
Choose New Profile

Or, were you referring to somewhere else?

Choose "Let Printer Driver manage Colour". However you do need to set the printer driver as it says in the Help to get best results.
Are you uncertain about setting the driver?

Terry, I do not know what you mean by setting the printer driver. In Qimage I use the printer icon at the top right of the screen to set up the printer for quality and paper. I assumed (and I know that is a bad thing to do) that once I selected the print quality and paper to be used, the HP printer driver made the necessary adjustments? Am I missing something?

OK. when you click that icon, the window that opens allows you to select the printer (if you have more than one), and the paper size. There's a "properties" button which gives access to the driver where you, I assume, are selecting the paper type, glossy, matte etc. There will be other options in the driver to enable setting quality and ICM; unfortunately I cannot obtain any screen shots of the driver so cannot give any more assistance on this feature  Embarrassed
I have looked at the manual but that has no illustrations and does not seem mention any colour management settings.
However, the Qimage Help does say using ICM is optional so see how you get on without it.

I have some now, they are for a Z series printer and may be similar to yours.
See attached screen shots below for ICM setting.
If yours are not like that, I have some others for an 8500 series printer which may help; let me know.

Thanks for all the checking Terry. I looked at my HP ColorSmart Pro B8350 Properties. My color is selected to be ColorSmart/sRGB. The other choice which is not selected is Application Managed Color. Under Advanced there is no place  to select ICM. Perhaps that is a feature of more advanced printers than the one I have...

That is the same as the later 8500 series infraction I now have. I think it should work ok. The real test will be the appearance of the prints you obtain.
