For some time now I've not used Adobe Reader and instead use Tracker Software PDF-XChange Viewer free version, which is smaller and faster the the Adobe program. It also has many more features such as the ability to annotate pdf documents.

Recently I noticed that Tracker are now offering their PDF Printer, PDF-XChange 'Lite' free to none commercial users.

It's fairly basic but works very well and probably adequate for most home users who want to create pdf files from any document.

PS. I've used it to make a pdf version of images with Qimage Utlimate. Set PDF-XChange 'Lite' as the printer and let driver manage colour to get a good result.

I switched from Adobe Reader to PDF-XChange Viewer and Lite 3-4 years ago, and now use the "Print to PDF" feature almost daily. It also works in reverse, with its "Export [PDF ti image] option. As Terry-M mentions, the Lite features were introduced as a free upgrade to Viewer users a year or two ago.

In combination with a virtual printer like Fine Print (and similar programs) you can even produce PDF booklets. I haven't tried PDF-XChange when printing from Qimage-U yet, but it shows as a printer in the Qimage-U printer Printer/Page setup dialogue.

PS: I have no commercial interests in any of the programs I mentioned.

Yes, it works ok but PDF-Xchange Lite does not have any colour management features. It's probably ok if you use sRGB images but colours are a little washed out if you use Adobe RGB, or in my case raw images with a camera profile. This is with Qimage set to "let printer driver manage colour".
Printing images to pdf works better with PDF Creator because it does have some colour management ability; I found that in PDF Creator, setting "printer manage colour" or "host system manage colour" both worked quite well and resulted in pdf images looking about right on screen.

PS. I just tried PDF XChange Lite again and set QU with a printer profile of sRGB and got good results.
