I'll chime in with some recent experience, since I just used Studio's Print to File function for the first time.

Staples was (and perhaps still is) having a half-price special on prints 18x24 or larger...$12 instead of $24, so I decided to give it a try with one of my close-up flower pictures.  Decided to take the file out to the local store rather than uploading.  After printing a test strip, decided to settle for an 18x24, although quality would have been acceptable even in a larger size.

Qimage took my 2.8 MP 3264x2448 file from an 8 MP camera and turned it into a 19.8 MP jpeg which Staples printed with no problem.  The resulting print will knock your socks off, even if you're holding it in your lap and examining it as closely as you would an 8x10.  What a great program.

GeekDad, I was shooting with a Mavica when I first got Qimage.  It does indeed allow you to get an acceptable 5x7 from those 640x480 Mavica files.

Those were indeed the days.  Every computer came with a 3½ floppy drive, and the Mavica was the camera to use if you were selling on ebay, or doing anything where you needed to get a photo on the web asap.

That's a great price on the paper.  I'm making the same size cards, but the single pre-scored cards I'm printing on are much more expensive...$8.95 for 50.  I'm happy with the print quality, but you're getting material for 200 cards for $17.

I tried printing on 8½x11, then cutting & folding, but got frustrated with the difficulty of doing it quickly & accurately.  Any tips/advice you could share?

Terry, earlier today I was thinking about looking up that earlier thread you mention above just so I could say thanks.  I'm making folded notecards, not Christmas cards, but the information you supplied--not to mention the templates--was invaluable.  I'm printing on  "Inkjet Photomatte" pre-scored cardstock from Desktop Publishing Supplies and the results are outstanding.  And once a set is formatted (thanks again for your templates) and saved as a job in Qimage, calling up the job and printing a few more sets is child's play.

I've used Qimage for years, but simply hadn't realized that its capabilities could make jobs like this so simple & easy.

If you're dumb as dirt, so am I, and I've been using Qimage for years.

I was having problems similar to yours even though I had made sure there was no conflict between my page size and my selected print size.  Took me several minutes to realize that my "plus" border setting (retained from a previous print job) was in effect defining a print size larger than the paper size!

Be patient.  Qimage is a program with extensive capabilities, so it's quite possible to set one parameter and create a conflict with another setting.

I also wonder if the top-end filters are worth the money, and I certainly agree that if you can't see the difference in the print, you should be content with the cheap filter.

But when it comes to cheap close-up filters vs. better ones, the difference in the print can be obvious.

Of course, calling these items "filters" is stretching the definition a bit, in any case.  But I've found the cheap ones essentially unusable.
