Forum Rules, Status, and Info / Forum Feedback, Status, Issues, etc. / Observation about resetting forum passwords
|
on: August 06, 2011, 03:20:05 PM
|
Mike,
When I went to reset my forum password, the prompt suggests using a password with at least 6 characters. However, when I did enter a 6 character password, the forum rejected it, and said the minimum length was 8 characters. Not sure if this something you can fix, and is just a minor annoyance, but I thought I would point it out anyway.
Regards,

Technical Discussions / Printers / Re: Canon Pixma Pro 9500 MKII: What is the "3rd Door"?
|
on: August 04, 2011, 12:26:40 PM

Here's the reply I received from Canon this morning (I'm impressed the reply came so quickly!):
"Thank you for your inquiry. We value you as a Canon customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you. I am sorry that your PIXMA Pro9500 Mark II did not come with a inner tray to print CD/DVDs.
Globally, Canon is comprised of many different sales divisions. Each sales division makes their own business decisions as to the products and features they feel will help them achieve their goals and best suit their market. Canon USA has made the decision not to include the CDR/DVD printing feature on consumer printers sold in this market.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused, and let us know if we can be of further assistance to you with your PIXMA Pro9500 Mark II."
Oh well. I do miss that feature which I had on my old R1800, although I don't miss the clogged heads!

Technical Discussions / Printers / Mystery Solved: Canon Pixma Pro 9500 MKII: What is the "3rd Door"?
|
on: August 03, 2011, 11:01:30 PM
|
I just discovered something on my Canon Pro 9500 MKII printer. The manual calls it an "Inner Cover". Google searches have revealed a tray to print CDs and DVDs. But I didn't get a tray. And there's a little panel in front of what looks like where the tray would go. (The page I found on Google appears to be for a non-U.S. audience).
Can I print on CDs and DVDs? Am I missing something?
I've submitted this question to Canon, too.

Mike's Software / Profile Prism / Profiles for Printing on Canvas?
|
on: April 16, 2011, 09:50:09 PM
|
Hello, I'm having troubles getting good color on canvas from my Canon 9500 Mark II, so I thought I'd check to see what resources DDI has. The Printer Profiles page on the DDI site ( http://www.ddisoftware.com/printerprofiles/) is confusing to me. The Profile Prism page it links to doesn't have any further links for ordering the software. And the $25 pre-made profiles at the bottom of the page seem quite old. So, if you were me, and you had a Canon 9500 Mark II and wanted to print on Premium Art canvas (they don't have an ICC), what would you do? Thanks.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / What is QImage "Elevator Pitch"
|
on: January 31, 2011, 04:56:32 PM

The subject of printing is popular when talking to other photographers about making images. I've used QImage for years, but I have trouble explaining exactly what it does in such a way as to convince other photogs to try it out. They print directly from PhotoShop and Lightroom, etc, and sometimes have no idea that they can use a 3rd party solution. So ... my question is ... if you had just a few minutes with someone, how would explain what QImage does? I looked at the product web page, but couldn't really find that succinct sentence or two that provided the clarity I'm interested in.

Technical Discussions / Printers / New Printer? Don't forget to d/l new profiles
|
on: December 31, 2010, 12:35:39 AM
|
Just thought I'd share this with the group.
Some of you may know by my previous posts that I scrapped my Epson R1800 for a Canon Pixma Pro9500 Mark II (I really wish it had an easier to type name!)
Anyway, I use Red River papers. I initially forgot to d/l new profiles for the new Canon printer. I was simply selecting the existing RR profiles, for the correct paper, but not for the correct printer. They were for the Epson printer. And the prints weren't coming out right.
As soon as I obtained the correct profiles for my paper/printer, the prints came out beautifully.
So ... just a tip.

Technical Discussions / Printers / Re: Feedback/Input on Canon PIXMA Pro9500 II?

Thanks everyone for your input. I've attached two images for your viewing pleasure. You'll recognize one of them as the Nozzle Check image. The other should be one continuous rectangle of yellow I printed from PowerPoint. About 10 "Head Cleanings" plus the paper towel/windex trick, and the print hasn't improved. Therefore, I'm going to venture into Canon-land and purchase the Pro9500 II.

Good luck with the 1900. I've heard great things about it's capability to print superb b&w images. I got many, many good images from my 1800. But I am disappointed by it's premature aging, poor head cleaning process and options, and more. Hopefully Epson has cleared up these things in the new model.

Technical Discussions / Printers / Feedback/Input on Canon PIXMA Pro9500 II?
|
on: December 27, 2010, 07:45:53 PM

Hello,
My 2nd Epson R1800 has clogged it's heads for the last time. So, it's time for a new printer. In my search for another 13" printer, I've come to the conclusion that the Canon PIXMA Pro9500 II is the one for me. (I've ruled out Epson). I like the specs and was hoping that my fellow Qimage users would have some words of wisdom that can guide me in the purchase decision.
What I like about the specifications is that it states the printer prints great b&w prints (something the Epson R1800 can't do). I also like the prospect of the straight through paper path for thicker paper.
I'm an advanced amateur, selling only a few prints per year, so I don't want to go larger, and certainly not smaller than 13".
Thanks in advance.

Add Apple to that list. iTunes automatically applied an upgrade to my iPhone 3G. Not it runs slower than anything. It's almost unusable. Now I have to decide whether to upgrade to the new Apple hardware, or go with a different brand and possibly a different carrier.
