Interesting--I do have an Epson, and right now the yellow is very low, which could easily lead to a pinkish skin tone. I'll change the cartridge and try again.

Thanks.

Yes, same paper--same package, even!  I was also wondering if different levels of each print cartridge miight even have a subtle effect.

The nozzles aren't clogged, I did double check that.

78  Mike's Software / Qimage Studio Edition (archived) / Inconsistent Colors when printing same (recalled) job on: October 19, 2009, 01:54:56 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm puzzled. I have a printing job that consists of three 4x6" copies of the same image, a family picture that I want to use for holiday cards. I printed a bunch of pages and saved the job, including all settings, etc. Then a couple of months later I decided I needed more copies, so I recalled the job and printed out another page. Everything in my settings is the same (the only change is that I might have upgraded Qimage since I printed the first batch), but the skin tones appear different from what I printed previously--they now have a pinkish tint. Shouldn't there be consistency, if I haven't tweaked anything? I thought that was the point of saving a job....

I am using Qimage 2009.269, with Windows Vista.

79  Mike's Software / FlashPipe / Re: FlashPipe v2010.101 released: discuss here on: September 09, 2009, 01:22:18 PM
Two questions: when installing this software I know it wants to be set to run at start-up. Since I like to minimize the number of programs that do that, I'm wondering if it is required to start at start-up, or if I can delete it from start-up once installed w/o any problems.

Also--you asked me if I changed the default directory when installing. I didn't--I don't think I even got a dialog asking about it, but my memory isn't infallible--but my pictures are not in the default Vista location. Is that an issue?

Thanks.

On that error when closing, it sounds as if you've picked a data folder to which you don't have write access.  When installing, did you just accept the default folders or did you change the data folder?

I didn't change anything when installing Flashpipe, though when I set up my photo folders when the computer was brand new I did change their location from the default one to C:\My Pictures.

I am experiencing one problem and I am wondering if I will still get this problem when I purchase the full version.  When I try to exit the programme I keep getting a dialogue box stating "File Access Denied" and the programme just will not close.  I have tried downloading the programme again on a different computer and I am still getting the same problem.

I am getting the same thing. I can't close it either with the x or with File>exit. I got that message also when I first clicked on Go, but when I re-clicked I was able to copy images.

Another issue: I tried using the program two ways, one using an external card reader and once using my CPU's built in card reader. Only the latter worked. With the former, I could navigate to the folder, but when I clicked on Go I got a message like "nothing to do" (or something like that).

I'm using Vista 32 bit.

Just for fun, if you wanted to send one RAW image to me via email, and see if we agree on the USM needed, can do. Fred

Hi Liz, where did you get to on this, just curious?
Terry.

The RAW image? Well, I sent one to Fred, and he played with it and told me what some of the settings he used were, and he also answered a couple of other Qimage questions that arose in the process. We didn't stay on the sharpening question that much.

You folks here are amazingly helpful and generous.

After 5 sheets of paper, you will be offering advice. :-))

Ummm, I have already probably printed well over 200 sheets, and have quite liked my results! I just haven't done much with sharpening in Qimage (or, apparently, with many of Qimage's other tricks)--at least so far.

USM filter with Equalisation is excellent.

What sharpening settings do you use?

I'm embarrassed to say that I probably use 1/4 of Qimage's possibilities. When I look at the sharpening options, I think, "I dunno--which ones should I use?"

I bought qimage because everyone over at dpreview was going on about the sharpening.

Interesting--I have never even thought about the sharpening that Qimage does, and I knew nothing about a three step process!

Harman Gloss FB AL Baryta

Seth,

I was curious, so I followed the link to the Harman web page. There seem to be two variations on this paper, one called Warmtone and the other lacking this designation. Which one are you using?

IMHO, for glossy, nothing beats Epson Prem glossy.

Agreed~!

As for matte, my current printer won't use Colorlife, though my first one did years back (do they still even make it?), but Epson Ultra Premium Presentation Paper Matte (what a name!) is quite nice.

Happy printing back to you!

I use Qimage in hobby mode, and I love to print my work, and wife Marilyn's too. We generally make 11 x 14 on A3 Epson Luster or Ilford Pearl. Either is wonderful paper. Then we buy inexpensive frames that have the 11 x 14 matte inside the 16 x 20 frame. We mount them, hang them in the dinette, entranceway, etc.

I do something similar (minus the wife), only the prints are letter size and the frames 11 x 14. I usually use Epson Premium Semi Gloss, but I do have some Ilford Pearl too. I'm not too good about rotating anything, though--the same ones stay up year after year!
