61  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Raw - the nine squares on: July 27, 2010, 01:24:50 AM
Can someone point me to information about using the nine squares in the Refine Raw window or give an explanation of what can and can't be done using the nine squares. I am wondering if they can be changed separately from the whole image or why they even exist. Can I apply a global adjustment and then an adjustment within one or more of the nine squares or is selecting a square akin to using the exposure in that square as the "whole image" for an image wide exposure adjustment? I hope what I am trying to say is clear.

The Hot Pink is probably Magenta on second look  Grin
63  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Hot Pink versus Red on: July 26, 2010, 05:14:48 PM
I refined and converted two Raw images. In the thumbnail window one of the raw file names is now hot pink the other is red. Why are they different colors and what do the colors mean? Is there an explanation of file name colors in the doc.?

I found it. I didn't know where to name it and save it, but found it under "File - Save Current Parameter To File" in the editor. I tried converting a few Raw images and the fill option to adjust shadows and highlights under Refine Raw and it worked better than C1 Pro's similar adjustment option. I might be a Qimage Raw convert.... have to try some more images over the next few weeks.

Where do I save a filter so I can use it again? For example, if I put an image in the queue, double click on it to bring up the editor, bump up the saturation, and then click the done button - where would I save this filter so I can apply it to other images easily?

If you had named it something else you probably wouldn't have to be discussing this. Something like "DDI Ultimate" or whatever but I know you wanted to keep the Qimage name. I was more concerned that you would sell Qimage to a large software company and then who knows what direction the product would go in. Were you thinking of publishing a priority list of first year enhancements you were planning to add to Ultimate?

Do you think that the priority for enhancements to Ultimate will be Raw, etc. and not so much the printing? I am just as reliant on Qimage to print as I am on Photoshop to edit and enhance. I may find the other capabilities useful, but for me printing is the deal breaker at this point in time. If enhancements would continue for printing I would be more inclined to jump into Ultimate sooner rather than later. I may change may mind after experimenting with the Raw capabilities.

Thanks Terry. I printed this out and will give it a try in the near future.

Can I do a batch convert of Raw to Tiff and will it deposit the Tiff files in the same folder?
Yes.
Place images in the queue, right click over preview and select convert. Leave folder bx blank to get new images into same folder. Note all the other options for edits (filter), crops, colour space conversion.

Will Qimage let me do a mass adjustment (such as a slight bump in saturation) to all the images and then some individual tweaking on top of that to selected images?
Yes.
Set up a saturation filter in the editor with any image that has no existing filter. Then File-Save Current Parameters to File with a suitable name.
This filter can now be applied to any set of selected images, thumbs or in queue, by right clicking and choosing "Predefined Filter", the Qimage Save folder opens, locate your custom filter & OK.

If Qimage can do a convert to Tiff so I can do final image manipulation in Photoshop and the Raw conversion is as good or better than Capture One Pro then I would consider using it for that purpose.
I don't see why not, providing you do not want 16 bit tiff's. Qimage does not offer 16 bit at present - I can see that as a later possibility with QU.

I use Photoshop to edit the image for printing. I am talking about "gallery" type prints that are being printed on a wide format printer (not snapshots of yesterdays cookout or family get together). I don't think all Qimage users are using their cameras only as point and shoot devices. If Qimage can do a convert to Tiff so I can do final image manipulation in Photoshop and the Raw conversion is as good or better than Capture One Pro then I would consider using it for that purpose.

I am familiar with that. That happens so I have it set that way. I just like to see the full image and toggle back and forth. Different strokes for different folks I guess. It's more of an industry standard I think.

Terry,

When I add fill light a preview window pops up as it always did in Qimage. I can't remember exactly what I did and I tried to replicate it without success. All I can say is that I can't remember ever getting an Invalid Floating Point error in Qimage Studio. I will most likely continue to use Capture One Pro for Raw. I like it, understand it, and find it easy to use. I don't really understand the "Raw flow" of Qimage and I always convert to the Tiff format in my Raw application so I can do adjustments in Photoshop, and then go back to Qimage for printing. I could see using the Raw convertor in Qimage for casual printing, i.e. snapshot type printing if it was easy to use for times that I forget to put my camera in Jpeg mode for casual shooting.

72  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Simple Feature Request on: July 25, 2010, 08:18:59 PM
I am hoping that maybe with Ultimate a check box or toggle button can be put in the edit window so it is one click to toggle back and forth between the original image and the filtered image. This would be like many photoshop plug-in applications that have the preview box that you can check and uncheck with one click. I love that feature even though it is such a simple one. (I am aware of the cntl + O and cntl + F shortcut keys but I still prefer the check box or toggle button that is always visible and just one click)

73  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Invalid Floating Point Operation on: July 25, 2010, 07:41:00 PM
Opened the edit window for a raw image, clicked on fill light, window opened up and clicked on image and received "Invalid Floating Point Operation". Had to cancel out of it once I got that message because everything I tried just gave me the same message.  Maybe I should wait until the beta testing is done.
74  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Bug in print properties window? on: July 25, 2010, 07:15:26 PM
You can already make the pop up window larger by grabbing the corner and dragging it. It is a user choice how big the pop up should be. All I am saying is that in most applications the scroll area can expand so if you make the window larger the scroll bar will go away if there is enough room because the scroll area will increase in size if you make the window larger by dragging. Windows Explorer is an example. No scroll bar on the right if all the files can be listed in the main window. If you decrease the size of the Explorer window at some point you will get a scroll bar.

Anyway, I just deleted some sizes that I don't use that Qimage inserted into that list so no scrolling is necessary now.

75  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: New Bug in print properties window? on: July 25, 2010, 06:14:53 PM
This must be a bug. I had the print properties window open and was going to delete a print size that I didn't use from the list. I forgot to select the size and no size was highlighted in the window. I clicked the tool box button and the print properties window disappeared. I minimized all my windows and it wasn't hidden. I clicked on Qimage to maximize it and as it was filling the screen I saw the print properties window but then it was gone when the window finished maximizing. I closed Qimage and restarted to fix the problem.
