3601  Mike's Software / FlashPipe / FlashPipe v2010.118 released: discuss here on: January 26, 2010, 02:02:13 PM
http://www.ddisoftware.com/flashpipe

v2010.118     01/26/10

Priority: Low

v2010.118 fixes a bug that, under some conditions, was causing check marks to reappear in auto-rename check boxes under "Settings" even when unchecked.

Strange that changes to any other options remain sticky. I guess I will just live with it for now. Thanks hor the help.

Are you certain that they do?  Have you tested them all?  It's possible that it is only working for the ones that get saved before those rename checkboxes and then your system has a problem saving registry entries and the rest fail.  To really know if all others stick, you'd have to test/change them all.  Not sure if you've done that.

Tried it as both administrator and a restricted user: no problem.  I looked at the code again.  The only possible ways for those checkboxes to get REchecked after UNchecking them are:

(1) You press the "Auto Rename Options" button under "Settings".

(2) You click "Cancel" after UNchecking the boxes instead of clicking "OK".

(3) Your system is unable to save data in the Windows registry, i.e. you have a system problem.

No the settings do not hold after an exit from Flashpipe. When I re-open Flashpipe the settings have reverted to checked. Only the two "Auto rename --" settings are affected. The others can be changed checked/unchecked and will remain stickey after an exit / reopen of Flashpipe.

Are you clicking on the button to show the rename parameters every time?  Clicking the "Auto Rename Options" button will automatically check those two boxes because fiddling with the rename options is an indication that you want rename turned on.  That's the only other way FlashPipe wouldn't remember those checkboxes.  Otherwise you have something going on with your machine.

I need to know what happens when you uncheck the boxes, use "File", "Exit" from FlashPipe, and then restart FlashPipe from the icon (without rebooting).  Do the unchecked boxes hold when you do that, but just not after a reboot?  If so, something is killing your Windows registry.  All FlashPipe settings are saved in the registry.  If they stick on an exit/restart of FP but not a reboot of the machine, that means the settings were in the registry and something removed those settings as your computer was shutting down or rebooting.

Try opening FlashPipe, unchecking the boxes as you've been doing, and then using "File", "Exit" to close FlashPipe.  Then reopen FlashPipe by clicking on its icon on the desktop.  See if the check boxes remain unchecked when you do that.  Then restart your system and see if they come back.  I'm thinking some sort of anti-virus or registry cleaner tool may be changing/corrupting the settings.  Also, be aware that if you chance users in Windows, the settings go with the user.  So if you boot your machine under one account and later switch to another, that would explain it too.

3609  Mike's Software / Profile Prism / Re: Problems with Canon MP980 and Epson Perfection V500 scanners on: January 21, 2010, 01:14:44 AM
If you are profiling a printer, there really is no "correct" answer as both will work because both targets are in the same image: whatever you do to one will have the same effect on the other target.  I prefer the "Yes" answer if you are profiling a printer because it makes the targets bright enough to see.  There really is no other reason.

Also, I have yet to see a scanner where 48 bit data is of any real use.  I've tested quite a few of them and anything beyond 24 bits is "in the noise" so to speak.  Now if you start doing multiple scans, that's another story.  If you run a half dozen passes, there is actually some real (image) data in the higher bits.  Not much... but a little.  If it's any help, I never use 48 bit scans when scanning for a profile.  24 bit is quite good enough.

3610  Mike's Software / Profile Prism / Re: Can optical brightener distort a profile? on: January 21, 2010, 01:06:22 AM
You probably already know this, but there is no such thing as "whiter than white".  A lot of optical brighteners just make the paper blue instead of white, and yes, that can certainly distort a profile!  The best thing you can do is make sure your scan of the targets doesn't have any (or at least very little) clipping.  You may be able to get a good photo of the targets using your dSLR but that's usually more trouble than it's worth because then you have to deal with uneven lighting caused by both the light source and the lens (the photo will be darker toward the edges due to the lens) and the fact that all lenses have some degree of distortion that can make the color patches very difficult to align.  The best you might be able to do is make sure you scan such that you don't clip the highlights.  You can try the dSLR and if you can get things lined up and you can get very even lighting, that can work too.

Like I said, there is a difference between spam and blacklists.  There is no way to know about deleted blacklisted items as you state but I get a ton of spam in the  spam folder. (Not items I've marked as spam in the past)  They do not just arbitrarily delete all the spam.

I've been around getting email since it  was available decades ago and I think I'm sharp enough to know if email that is of any importance to me is getting through or not. In fact there is a lot I wish wasn't.  I've been dealing with your programs for many years now and I knew almost immediately that the problem was at your end; a fact that you admitted would be corrected. So why are we beating this dead horse?

No need to get your panties in a bunch!  Wink  There was a configuration problem on my end that caused there to be no reverse DNS entry for the originating IP.  This should not have caused Comcast to block the email: just due to a reverse DNS issue!  That can happen temporarily just due to someone switching providers or a new server being brought online with a new IP and the address has not yet been propogated throughout the web.  I'm certainly not going to argue with you about it.  Comcast is one of the worst offenders on the web for arbitrarily blocking (dumping) emails just because they see more than X number of messages coming from one IP to their customers (as this forum would do whenever I post to a thread that is subscribed to by many forum members).  I've been dealing at all levels with email as long or longer than you have and have been dealing with the nightmare that is Comcast email blocking for at least a decade.  Send more emails than they think you should be sending and voila... you're on the blacklist.  The Comcast black/block list nightmare is documented all over the web.  That's what I was referring to.  Google it.

I have never lost any email from Comcast. I can always check using their web-based mail client and find spam still on file in the spam folder

But how would you know if you did?  When Comcast block/blacklists, they simply dump the incoming message.  The sender gets no bounce and you get nothing... anywhere... not even in your online spam folder.

3615  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: QImage Cutouts - new ones in folder do not appear in list on: January 17, 2010, 03:22:22 PM
(1) Sounds like you are putting the cutout in the wrong place.  You're probably using the old location (from older versions).  Click "Utilities", "Explore Qimage Application Data" and you'll find the proper "Cutouts" folder there.

(2) The only option worth noting on that dialog is the third speed button on the top: that one rebuilds the thumbnails for the cutouts.  Just ignore the other options and leave them at default.

(3) The forum shows that you only have one post (this one), so I don't see any example.  What you mention, however, sounds like a printer driver bug where the printer doesn't know how (where) to register data.  Are you using an HP printer?
