31  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: B&W printing on: December 11, 2010, 03:13:20 PM
I think the short answer is no!

the round about way I do it (using an Epson R2400) is to output a file resized and output sharpened at 720 dpi from Qimage and print using Roy Harrington's QuadToneRip (http://www.quadtonerip.com/). This has the disadvantage that the image file is only 8 bit per channel while 16 bit would be preferable, as the RIP has to do some further processing before passing it on to the printer (QTR operates as a frontend to gutenprint, I think).
This may be more complicated than you want, and QTR only supports some Epson printers.

Can you take a saved file and then print directly via gutenprint, still getting the advantage of Qimage's resizing and sharpening algorithms?
32  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: 48 bit (16 bit per channel) tiff output possible? on: October 03, 2010, 11:46:55 PM
48 bit TIFF output from raw is on the list of to-do's for Ultimate.  While 24 bit is enough for a final image and for printing, I understand the benefits of being able to output 16 bit/channel if you intend to do further work (outside of Qimage).

That said, Qimage Ultimate does give you a lot of control and the ability to create images from raw that should be very near what you need for a final photo... so may I ask what it is that you are doing where you need 16 bits/channel?
In my case, I normally use QTR (QuadToneRIP) for monochrome prints rather than the Epson print driver, having 16 bit data before the data is partitioned between the inks may give a slight further gain. at present I put up with the 8 bit output, rather than put up with Adobe's sharpening  Wink
33  Mike's Software / Qimage Studio Edition (archived) / Re: floating text on: July 29, 2010, 11:41:36 PM
I reckon it would be trivial to produce a greetings card template
Depends on whether you want multiple lines of related text, with equal spacing vertically between the lines (eg for an address) ... I asked for this years ago, and was told to wait for the floating text improvements which as far as I know never materialised. You could align the horizontal starting points of lines, but not make the spacing between lines the same. I did create a template, but had to resort to manually editting the numbers in the template by trial and error to work out which number controlled what. I haven't changed the templates since creating them.

Thanks Mike, that's fixed it!

I requested access to the Studio Forum two weeks ago, with the necessary details.
I used to have access before and then my account here was deleted (possibly during the spammer purge).
How long is it currently taking for access to be granted? (the instructions say a day or two)
