166  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Error message on starting. on: November 05, 2012, 11:18:47 PM
Error:
Qimage is unable to write to the folder: C:\ProgramData\Qimage\
Please reinstall Qimage in a folder to which you have write access.

The above isn't shown in C:\ProgramData\Qimage.  However, there is a folder C:\ProgramData\ddisoftware\Qimage though.  Huh?

Is this some bug in v2013.103 where it cannot find the C:\ProgramData\Qimage and maybe leftover location from a prior version?

167  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: How do I make "Print to fit paper size" as a default? on: November 02, 2012, 08:00:15 PM
Fred,

So if I understand you correctly, that means for every type of paper I use and size, say Ilford Pearl 13x19, Moab Glossy 13x19, Inkpress Metallic Satin 13x19 and then going to each of those in a 4x6 or 5x7 inch size that I need to save as those file names too with paper sizes for them too?  Example: Moab Glossy 13x19, Moab Glossy 8x11.5, Moab Glossy 5x7, and Moab Glossy 4x6.  Seems arduous that way, no?

Seems easier with a generic "Always Fit to Page" as a Default someplace rather than a bunch of individual saves and calling them back up along with the ICM profiles both?  If I understand this right.  Huh?

Seems odd the QU cannot figure out "Print to Page" or "Print to Paper Selection Size" as a generic default on a paper-size change-out, rather than the subsequent waste of paper that ensues from the many small size papers coming off a larger print downsized to a smaller paper size.  Must be a default in it someplace to prevent this sort of thing rather than loading a bunch of "File Saved" settings along with the ICM paper profiles both.

I wish I could leave the paper ICM name loaded and just change paper sizes without having to refit pages for each size change made.  The red warning isn't always that visible and walking away from the computer leads to a pile of rubbish sized prints if I don't catch it fast enough and throw the power off to everything to disable the printer cache, spooler, and QU running in the background as well with all of them trying to keep doing the job even on a restart.  Nine sheets of paper with partial images on each is sort of a huge waste at $104 for 20 sheets!

168  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / How do I make "Print to fit paper size" as a default? on: November 02, 2012, 04:41:23 PM
This must be in the program somewhere, but whenever I change paper size (usually to smaller) the default is that is prints maybe 3-9 images on multiple sheets of the smaller paper.  I need to constantly be on the lookout for the red 3x3 or similar warning (which is a pain to see on images with red) on the right image window else I end up trying to shut the entire process down via Qimage, Canon driver, and the printer spooler.  Only way I can avoid it is to open the printer window and select "Fit to Page" which seems arduous to check each time I switch paper sizes.

Tia.

Don't know if this belongs here or where, but Canon updated their printer drivers and even a firmware into their 9000 Mark II printer on Oct. 12, 2012.  Might be part of the Windows 8 roll-out thing, but it also installed and redid the firmware for Windows 7 64-bit as well.  There were a lot of them too, but this is the first firmware burn to the printer I've seen and don't know what it did there.

Two warnings popped up in Qimage launch.  I don't know how much has been destroyed behind the scenes with the new upgrade and firmware burn to (That had to be done with Microsoft's involvement as well??) , but much of what was in Canon's pop-ups has changed to maybe the original factory defaults?  I don't know if the ICM profiles have changed either.  I noticed the XPS extension on the printer has gone too.

Just a FYI.

170  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Printer won't stop printing! on: October 18, 2012, 01:03:32 AM
Yep.  Lucky I didn't have 50 sheets of paper loaded before I noticed the thing printing small sections.  I thought the "Resize window" warning would have popped up in Qimage when I went from A3+ to smaller 5x7, but the image on the screen looked good (other than the 3x3 in red) so I thought I was good to go until the first small sectioned print popped out.  That's when all heck broke loose trying to stop the thing.  Taking out paper.  Power offs. Etc.  Nothing worked.

I did notice that even if I shut down the Canon printer in its pop-up dialogue box and cancel the jobs, some time later Qimage will continue to fill it up as it processes any remaining images still in it.  I thought I had it all cancelled and cleaned it all out, but it soon filled up again via Qimage still running behind the scenes.  Sort of maddening as it re-loads up the Canon (Windows?) print spooler and the entire thing takes off again.  Seems there should be a one-button "Kill this sucker once and for all" someplace and not multiple windows and icons to shut it all down and in the proper sequence too.

Makes one nervous to restart sometimes with this $100 a pack paper.  Too bad I can't print on both sides.

Least it's quiet .... for now.  Live and learn.

171  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Printer won't stop printing! on: October 17, 2012, 09:42:21 PM
Okay.  I hit the small "Cancel" icon in the upper right of QU.  Printer kept running.  Unplugged printer USB and power, plugged in, and it resumed printing.  Hit "Cancel" again, still printing.  Restarted computer, unplugged printer thinking this would stop it.  Guess what?  It began printing again.  "Cancel" button had no impact at all.

Opened up the Canon printer info and saw the print job still loaded (Twice!).  It won't forget it even with powering off!?!  Cancelled all in there too and all is quiet again, but I restarted everything to make sure it was dead.

I don't get why it takes both QU and Canon to cancel a job and clear out the buffer.  Seems QU should kill it off.  Doing one or the other keeps the jobs running.  Needs a "STOP ALL PRINTING NOW" emergency button to kill off everything.

Problem began when I changed paper size in QU from A3+ to smaller 5x7.  The images were still loaded, but they wanted to use 9 sheets of 5x7 I guess (if that's what the red 3x3 was indicating in the right window in QU, didn't auto-resize to small paper I guess.) and all 9 print jobs remained loaded in the buffer that even a Restart and Power Down and Up wouldn't kill off.  Couldn't get into the edit part to change the size either until everything was shut down, both QU and Canon driver/software/buffers, etc.

172  Mike's Software / Profile Prism / Re-writing an exisiting profile. on: October 17, 2012, 04:38:35 PM
I rescanned a IT8 target to redo a profile on an ink change.  The paper name is what I used, say "Moab Glossy."

I noticed the new file date created from Prism is from the last one and never the new one (i.e. New ICM profile shows 12-4-2011 and not 10-17-2012)?  Do I have to delete the prior ICM profile for the new one to work as it doesn't seem to over-write the old date?  I'm afraid that the old date profile is still lying in hiding and the new one is being ignored even though I right-click and "Install new Profile."

Fred-

I did the uninstall shortly after I posted as a possible fix and noticed there is a "Repair" check-box listed as one of the options.  I did that instead of a complete uninstall and reinstall and it worked!  All is well again so some dll or something got messed up someplace.  Maybe too many registry cleans or something, but the "Repair" option fixed it.

174  Mike's Software / Profile Prism / Profile Prism - Not responding? on: October 14, 2012, 04:39:32 AM
Was working in the Editor part of Profile Prism.  Made some changes, and it asked "Do I want to save to a new profile?"  I did, just by adding 02 at the end of the former name.

Then the program quit responding and hangs up (Windows 7 64-bit) and I cannot exit.  Task Manager shows "Not responding."

Any reason why it hangs up and I have to do a hard shutdown to exit?  New profile was not saved either.

Tia.

Thanks Terry.

I never paid attention to that small cancel icon in the upper right corner of Qimage (It's pretty small as is.).  I tried to cancel within the Canon pop-up window to stop the job, which I guess allowed Qimage to run in the background processing all the images and pages.  I'll try canceling with the Qimage upper right icon next time and not the Canon pop-up dialog box and see how that goes.

I noticed if I "Cancel a job" to change a setting, the program continues spooling or whatever in the background.  Shouldn't it cancel spooling and processing too when I hit Cancel?

Problem occurred as the printer was set to front-loading and not rear-loading from prior printing.  When the Canon dialog box popped up "To use front loading button," I canceled out but couldn't get back into the program to change the settings until all the Qimage processing continued in the background had finally stopped.  It was a long process waiting (spooling & processing both?) before I could get into the printer settings to change it correctly.

177  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: The Advantage of Using Custom Camera Profiles in Qimage Ultimate on: July 21, 2012, 06:24:41 PM
Terry, do you have a better outline of how you did this profile thing?  I have Profile Prism and their target I think you used.

I would like to go right from the NEF file to QU with a profile to see what the first print result is before I launch into PS to edit.  My initial test with the D7000 NEF were a bit orangish so I stopped doing raw printing off QU.  Haven't tried the newer D800E yet, but maybe a profile would work better.

178  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / What does Sharpness Control do exactly? on: July 18, 2012, 09:59:50 PM
That Zero to 20 thing?

Does it begin at something like 72 dpi at the printer (The Zero setting?) and then go up to 1440 or whatever the printer is capable of (the 20 Setting?)?  Or something else entirely?

179  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / PDF printing addition maybe? on: July 12, 2012, 02:04:16 PM
Lately, I'm seeing and getting more photo files that are PDF images. Some test imaging software that needs to be sharp is now using PDF files for their targets (a change from JPG) and now this site too:

http://mansurovs.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Siemens-Star-Focus-Chart.pdf

http://mansurovs.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Focus-Test-Chart.pdf

and now this outfit is using PDF files as well in a move from their former JPG files:

Reikan Focal http://www.reikan.co.uk/focal/faq.html#how%20print%20target  All their sharp test targets are in PDF now too as well as their documentation.

So PDF printing may be a nice addition to QI rather than opening the images in Photoshop and converting them to something QI might see and use.

Fred, I have the same printer (Canon 9000 MK II) and would look, but don't know where you are seeing the check box at?  I just had to reinstall Windows XP on the laptop due to a virus that caused the icons to open other programs and generally wreaked havoc.  System Restore killed the machine off in general so it was a new install.

Aside, I just went to the Canon Download site and I see Canon has released 3 new updates as of Feb. 2, 2012 for that printer.  They changed their default paper setting to some paper I have never seen out:  "Photo Paper Plus Glossy II N"

From their website's update notes:

[Ver.2.29a]
- [Photo Paper Plus Glossy II N] has been added to [Media Type].
When using "Photo Paper Plus Glossy II" with "Pro9000 Mark II; Photo Paper Plus Glossy II N," select "Photo Paper Plus Glossy II N" in [Media Type] of this driver.

I recall Canon does some other driver install in the Windows 7 Ultimate machine with a different extension to the printer:  Canon 9000 Mark II, and one called Canon 9000 Mark II XQD (sp? since I am not on that one now.) or something like that and I show both there.  It doesn't show up in the 32 bit variation like Windows XP so I assume the one with the extension is the proper one for Windows 7 Ulitmate 64 bit.

Odd part was I just moved the ICC paper profiles from the Windows 7 machine to the Windows XP one and they seem to printer different, a bit of magenta and a bit darker.  I don't know if there is a difference between the the 32 bit and the 64 bit, but it seemed odd the same test print printed different between the two with the same ICC profiles from the 64 into the 32 bit one.
