Mr P,

The boys can sort you out with the second request I am sure. I prepare pages for printing on one PC and do the actual print on a second one. I'll let the gurus explain when they spot your message. I'm saving 'sessions' but I am pretty sure you can save all the profiles. What I'm doing is to keep all my QU work on an external HDD which I carry from one location to another.

Over to the professors.

Oh - I see Mike has already spotted you....

Terry,

A few months on.

Have you any further thoughts on the use of noise removal in Edit rather than letting RAW conversion do it automatically?

Yes, Terry, I am on 120.

I mentioned it as I felt the original ODR affected 'brightness' but did not extend the 'contrast'.

Bumping this as it introduced the new ODR.

It seems to add more contrast than the old version - and that I like is it reduces work in the Edit screen.

Maybe it is imagination. Even if it is my imagination it is still good enough for me.

Posting simply to confirm that Session works.

It did not initially as my drive acquired a different letter on the other machine - but once I got it matched it found all the files and patterns.

Great system.

Thanks Terry.

That does it - both requests sorted.

Have a great day. Rain, rain, rain.

Can some kind soul remind me where I make the ticked box my default, please?

And whilst we are still at kindergarten level can you remind me how to make QU open at the last folder visited rather than something it is finding in a User file on my drive D.

I know you like the easy ones at breakfast time.....

Brian.

I see what you mean but I think a Session will hold enough info.

Fred.

Wifi stands no change. The two PCs are much to far apart. But thanks for the idea.

Good idea Brian,

But, as Terry mentioned, some of the other folders relate to printer drivers etc so it is only the Save that goes to the portable.

I do print on my desk machine Canon cheapo with Qimage at odd times. And the studio machine drives the Epson 3880.

Thanks Brian,

I had not realised.

Doing what I plan to do would you move it to somewhere else?

I realise it is a long way down the folder stack where it is.

Thanks Terry,

Yes I will use Sessions. I am used to it as when I was simply working on one PC I often saved some page layouts as Sessions so that I had a falll back if further tweaking messed up what I had done so far.

I'll need to make sure that portable HDD keeps the same drive letter. Good point.

Have a great Easter. Rubbish weather here in SW6.

I have changed my workflow so I can design the pages I want to print on my desk machine and I only need to use my studio machine when I want access to my Epson 3880.

I now have two matching PCs. The programs are stored on Drive C of each machine. Drive C also contains the Program Data folders. My machine are configured to hold the User folders on Drive D.

All my images are held on an external HDD which I will move from my desk to my studio depending on which machine I am using.

Can you kind souls remind me where Qimage is going to store the pages when I 'save' them?

I am guessing it is in C:\ProgramData\ddisoftware\Qimage\Save

Is there anything else I might need from within User?

Many thanks.

28  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Trimming posters on: November 01, 2017, 04:35:16 PM
Thanks Terry,

No. Mine does not take rolls.

I should explain that these A0 images are posters to decorate a room and not fine art to be sold. I take your point about the bump but it might not matter too much in my case. I've got the four sheets on my Living Room floor at the moment and the white margins are not unlike those multi screen displays you see in shops. I will trim them but I am 10% tempted not to.

The idea of card and adhesive is a good one. I have an adhesive roller device I use when I have to put lustre prints onto matte card that takes ink.

I'd quite like to be able to roll up these A0 prints as they will be quite hard to transport.

Presumably Mike has written the software so that there is no overlap of image - hence your point about careful trimming. At least I have an A2 trimmer.

I am about to make some A0 prints using A2 paper.

In fact I have just done one and it looks stunning.

How do you gurus go about trimming? Is the answer to trim one sheet at each intersection and use masking tape on the back taking advantage of the small overlap?

And has Mike added a way of increasing the overlap a bit so there is more to put under the tape? I'm using quite heavy paper and I am not sure the margin/overlap I have at the moment will be quite strong enough.

But - a great tool Mike. Well done.

30  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Forcing the peak black level to the left of the histogram on: October 01, 2017, 06:16:59 AM
Thanks Terry,

I had forgotten about the right click.

Mike mentioned it a while ago when I wanted to batch change some DFS settings.
http://ddisoftware.com/tech/qimage-ultimate/batch-replace-of-dfs/

I probably need to go back and double check that I did not overwrite my existing DFS settings when I applied my histogram change. Something to while away a wet Sunday!

EDIT. Now I look at the difference between finding a filter in Edit and finding one with a thumbnail and right click I feel confident that I'll be OK. I was just picking a batch of thumbs of shots I knew needed the left hand slider moving. So my other settings such as DFS will not have got over written. Need to find something else to do whilst it drizzles. (Have you ever checked your camera and light batteries, Terry? This might interest you http://tinyurl.com/ybl3gtuy  - Sorry OT Mike but it might interest you as well)
