Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Stream Read Error
|
on: November 01, 2011, 03:34:30 PM
|
I suspect my system is trying to tell me that it is old and tired.
Just installed 206. Wanted to see the window fade thing live. Well, when I click the center wheel on a thumb, sometimes it pops up, sometimes QU just hangs with an hourglass, and then I get a little box that says Stream Read Error. Sometimes the hour glass wont go away and I have to abort QU.
I reinstalled 204 - the problem doesn't happen. Then I reinstalled 206 - and at least so far it has not happened again.
Any ideas on what kind of issues could cause this?

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / What's with the thumbs?

What is the triggering mechanism that causes QU to rebuild thumbs? Just wondering what's going on. Since installing QU 200, I notice that when I open a folder, most of the time QU is rebuilding all of the thumbs, even in recently used folders, including one folder where 104 had just built the thumbs a couple of days ago. Obviously not a big problem - just surprised to see it happen.

In fact the behavior is even wierder than I thought - but I was wrong about one thing - it is defintely NOT consistent. Just ignore this for now. I need to see exactly what set of circumstances brings this about - it certainly does occur but seems unlikey to be a general problem - if it is one at all - thanks for the quick response Fred.

Nope - it is consistent and repeatable - at least here - as I say if I edit from the queue - no problem - but if I edit by double clicking the thumb, the thumb is not updated for the red eye. End even rebuilding thumbs doesnt help it.

If I double click a thumb, go directly into the full editor, and create a filter that includes blemish correction (say red eye), the blemish removal does not show on the thumb. But if I make the same correction from the image in the queue, then the thumb updates as well. Also notice that for thumbs whose filters were not created in the queue, pressing on the mouse wheel does not give me an enlarged image.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / My registration had expired

I apparently just needed to renew - didn't realize it had been a year. I assume that will unlock the registration problem. Don't know if I should have gotten notice of that first - maybe yahoo put it in my spam foder.

Technical Discussions / General Photography Discussion / Problem with camera or memory card?
|
on: July 13, 2011, 03:40:45 AM

So I picked up an inexpensive point and shoot (Nikon S8100) to keep in the car so would always have a camera handy. New SD memory card (since I don't otherwise use this card). First set of pictures - about half of the 100 or so jpegs are corrupted and unreadable. I may try looking at these with a binary editor, but meantime, is there an easy way to tell whether I have a defective camera or a bad memory card?

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Cross-View 3D (Stereo) - can you see this?

Not me. Maybe it's my astigmatism and glasses. Have never been able to do this unless I go extremely crosseyed, then I get about a half second glimpse that almost works followed by a three and a half minute headache. Those 3D weird pictures that they sell in card shops and novelty stores (on calendars mostly I think) - where you have to get to within a few inches - have never made that work either. Some of you just have more "vision" than others of us. So, I'll continue to enjoy my Beethoven in stereo, but my photography in mono.

I am pretty sure this is a video driver related issue. I have had similar problems (not with e-bay) off and on where the Qimage screen or window would flash and then disappear. Turns out it is just hiding underneath another window. But in each case, even though my system claimed that all drivers were current, when I went to the NVIDIA site and found a later driver, the problem went away.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: What is QImage "Elevator Pitch"

Let's ignore for moment that it lets you print multiple images per page, optimize paper use, make incredible collages, montages, and photoarrays on a single page, let's forget for a moment all of the recent features related to raw imaging, zone targeted sharpening. Here is what Q-Image does.
It lets you print a 4 MP image as if it were 20 MP. It lets you shoot at a shorter focal length and get a sharp image, and then you can edit and enlarge the image section as if you had shot at a longer focal length. It lets you print images that seem to come alive in their realism and detail, even when printed to poster size. It lets a so-so amateur photographer - such as me - create really stunning images
And I could go on. I've used this line in this forum before. I have 3 equal components in making a print in terms of importance. 1- Camera and lenses, 2 - Computer and printer, 3 -Qimage. Of these 3 equal components, one of them, one of them represents about one and a half percent of my total $ investment.

I also use Zenfolio to display my photos and everyone loves it. I keep my pages private and password protected as it is mainly for family and friends, but may take a second subscription for some more public displays. It has all kinds of features that I don't use, is inespensive, and easy to use.
I use the "creeate e-mail web size" feature, and depnding on what it is adjust the size. I use smaller for the more snapshot type images, and larger - up to 1800 x 2400 - for more fomral portraits. They all look great on the site.
