31  Mike's Software / Profile Prism / Re: CANON 8400F on: February 05, 2016, 06:44:01 AM
This one for the Answering No attachment.
Don't know why it didn't go with the previous post.

Terry, I purchased the LiDe 110 this morning.
I have a black sheet that occupies the entire scanner window.
First thing first. Profiling the scanner.
When I bring the 48bit scanned with 5x passes IT8 target into PP, it seems obvious to answer No. See the attached.
The same histogram jammed on the dark side. The familiar light variance report as with the 8400F.
Reading the instructions for the Canon scanner in Help (as copied below) it says to say Yes. See the second attachment.
Are my settings correct in both attachments??
The Yes histogram is encouraging, but the report isn't.
Can you pick where I'm going wrong?

Regards,

John

Canon Scanners

Included Canon software usually not sufficient to get good scans without clipping
Specialized scanning software such as VueScan recommended
Recommended VueScan settings:

First, click "Scanner", "Calibrate" with scanner lid closed, white pad in place
On the "Input" tab, select "48 bit RGB" for "Bits per pixel"
On the "Input" tab, select "300 dpi" for "Scan resolution"
On the "Output" tab, select "Output raw file"
UNcheck Output TIFF, JPEG, and index file so only the raw file is saved
UNcheck "Raw compression" on the same tab
Set "Raw file type" to "48 bit RGB" on the same tab
Scan
Open scan in Profile Prism and reply "Yes" to the linear 48 bit scan prompt
Proceed with profiling steps
33  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Last Registered: I believe incorrect on: February 04, 2016, 03:35:41 AM
I see a discrepancy in Registration Info as opposed to when I last paid.
It's very much in my favor. Could this be a dog owners discount??
I'm always happy to pay with my $s to support QIU at the due date, or at the next significant update.

It seems to me that up to the point where I'm at, the lighting variance across the chart and the poor shadow detail are the biggest hurdles to overcome with the 8400F.
Is that a failing of the scanner or my methods, or both?
In the past another 8400F user posted a histogram and report near identical to mine.

Yes 48 bit Terry.
Does the 110 do a better job??
I've located one secondhand.

36  Mike's Software / Profile Prism / CANON 8400F on: February 02, 2016, 01:08:04 PM
I acquired Profile Prism a while back as a free download with my last QIU sub.
The CANON 8400F scanner I have is underexposing with the histrogram clipped on the rh side as others with this scanner have reported.
Using VueScan Pro and following instructions.
I have a Color Munki from which I get good results, but have been busting to try PP.
Used a dark but not black A4 size backing. Could that be a reason for the underexposed scans?
Has anyone been successful with the CANON 8400F??
Are the newer LiDE scanners as capable as the older ones for this task??
When the image loads I answer No because I'm profiling the scanner. That is correct??
See the screenshot.

Thanks
John
37  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Update 135 on: January 16, 2016, 02:02:03 PM
It seems the errors, as attached, which I've been plagued with in recent times happen when I start to scroll through folders with something suspect in them. I've isolated two folders which trigger the pointer error, then the access violation which locks up QIU. Other folders I can happily browser through without mishap.
After the freeze, I shut down with Task Manager. When I open again it starts normally without the Reset option. Reset All doesn't help in this instance.
Is there a recommended method to track down bad files which crash the program??

John

Thanks Fred.
I have 135 and all is well.
Likely will need one week to prove it.
Once again I appreciate Mike responding with an update to the stability query.

John

Am keen to install the latest release.

40  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Errors on: January 06, 2016, 07:23:10 AM
I've reset everything under HELP and all seems to be AOK thus far.
I'll get back if it reoccurs.
A previous post on access violations was similar and helpful, maybe.

John
41  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Errors on: January 06, 2016, 03:37:13 AM
I've encountered errors which I'd appreciate some help with.
This isn't new, have encountered it in recent times but I seem to get past it for a short time before it reappears.
Have just opened the program again, did nothing else and an Invalid Pointer error comes up, then directly after an Access Violation at address 00405B01 in module Qimage.exe, Write of address 000204B0. I continue clicking on this one until it goes, but QUI has now hung. I printed some photos unhindered this morning, but yesterday had a similar run of errors until I did a reset and re-downloaded and installed fresh drivers for both printers.
I just now shutdown QIU, open with another reset to be greeted by Access violation at address 0040A32A in module Qimage.exe. Read of address FFFFFFFC. I have no alternative but to close the program.
The print job this morning I manually chose the printer settings.
Next I'll reboot and see if that helps.
Any comment appreciated.
I continue to think this is a great program. This is only a minor hiccup.

Regards,

John

42  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Problem with the display of Cutouts on: June 01, 2015, 10:45:20 PM
Thanks Fred.
It's always pleasing when the issue can be duplicated by other users.
Your #3 Rebuild thumbs works best.
All Images in the Page Editor slows the work rate down too much.
The cutout is a jpg made in Paint Shop Pro. I'll assess others I have made by other users.
It would be good if this hickup could be terminated in future updates, that is if the issue isn't related to the cutout file.
Yes, he's my dog.
Thanks for your assistance once again Fred.

43  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Problem with the display of Cutouts on: June 01, 2015, 02:31:57 AM
Can anyone duplicate the apparent double application of cutouts which display in the main screen preview and the Page Editor, but disappear when in the HQ Preview?
When coming out of the Image Editor, the cutout is applied in the Preview, then the images blinks in and out as the cutout is applied again.
I have noticed this for a while going back through past versions, but now I'm using the cutout feature more, it has become a nuisance.
There should be two screenshots attached.

John
44  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Rotated images transparent on screen, but not the print. on: March 09, 2015, 03:37:40 AM
Thanks Fred.
The problem started after 111.
I have it installed now until the fix happens.

45  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Rotated images transparent on screen, but not the print. on: March 08, 2015, 02:10:54 PM
I've created an A4 full page image with 3 borders, text and a small rotated image in each corner.
I placed the corner images and then fiddled with the rotation in the Image Editor to get the positioning that looked good.
It looks as it should in the preview, it also looks the way it should in the Page Editor and with HQ Preview and Soft Proof.
But the Epson print preview shows the white bounding boxes as does the print.
I'm using V116.
Mikes image of Bruno the dog with the white surrounding the rotated image of versions previous to 106 is what I see in the print preview and the print.
I'm sure I printed rotated images successfully when 106 was releases thinking what a great additional capability it was.
Love the program. As soon as another significant update occurs I'll buy another year of updates.

Thanks,

John
