I cleared out - deleted - all previous backups residing on the R Drive and created an ran a fresh backup with Brighsparks - Syncback.
All went well and got a perfect copy.
Will be seeing how subsequent runs pan out.
On future runs FlashPipe will have already created some initial backups, will be interesting to see if this causes a problem.

Thanks Ray.
One of the two progs I am trying is BrightSparks, I have got it working quite well on my XP Computer which is used for all general work. I will give it a good test work out on Vista's gigabites of image files.

I am trying to decide which is the best backup procedure. I have over the past few years used many backup programs both free and purchased. All have at some time failed me, or possibly it is I who have failed them, but whatever the backup has ended up in a mess.
I have now two 1gig usb externals, well, one is a Esata but my computer and/or Vista does not like it and subsequently fails to boot up, so have reverted to both on usb.
Yesterday, I switched on the two external drives before the firing up computer and unnoticed by me the drive designations were reversed, Q became R and R became Q, now that really confused both me and the backup programs!
Any way they failed as you would expect.
I thought sod it, so did a disk clone, LOL, it took 26hours COL.
FlashPipe does a first class job of taking images off SD cards and at same time duplicating the download on the backup drive.
The problem is how to backup the files on Q drive that are subsequently processed to the R backup drive (the further processed files will probably end up in further sub folders.
Now, it occurs to me that I never had backup problems in DOS days so wonder can anybody see a problem with running a backup from DOS? say something like:-
backup <path><filename><drive> /A /S /M where filename is *.* As in DOS days I could no doubt make up a bat file Put simply, I want the R backup drive to be a mirror of the Q working drive, Only image files are involved.
I can freely experiment as all the image files are safe, LOL again, on partitions on the main internal drive.

Mike
Is it OK for me to pass on your comments to our local club members?
I would give you full credit and links to your Qimage etc. They are brain washed to PhotoShop and nothing else so doubt they would give Qimage a seconds thought. A lot of them do not even believe in calibrating their monitors.

An interesting read.
I have seen various 7 reviews which seem to say that win 7 is a must buy, but I have not seen one feature that I would consider a must have.
My view is why bother, let alone spend money, XP works fine, the only Vista improvement on XP I have found is that creating a folder in Vista takes on a second or two, in XP it takes about 15 seconds. I have not worked out the cost per second.
I will be keeping my wallet closed.

A question regarding profiles for projectors.
When you create a profile for a projector, what is the procedure for 'calling it up' if that is the phrase. Say there was a profile for the laptop screen, and another for the projector.
This is a question regarding our club laptop/projector where there is marked degradation on the projector screen.

Thanks for that. Bearing in mind that I haven't actually used FP, it just looked interesting and I don't want to start the trial until I see if it could work for me.
I haven't fully studied your other post, but why not just use DLP which puts the files into a user defined structure. I just insert my card, DLP pops up and automatically downloads images straight to the year/month/day folder structure that I defined. Importing into LR is easy and nothing additional needs to be done. Are you saying that FP will only use a single folder for each download? If that is the case, surely then if you were doing a shoot every day for 3 years say, then it would created almost 1000 folders at the the next level down from your main Photo folder. Is that right? If so, that does not seem like a workable structure.
Just give FP a trial and work it out for yourself. It is a simple prog and the 7day trial should be long enough. If it proves no good for you, leave it and continue to use DLP. Jeff

Which Cisco's Network Magic do you use? I have xp and vista Jeff, I use Network Magic Pro. There are the cheaper "Essentials" and free "Basic" versions too. Web site here http://www.purenetworks.com/NB. You need to check if your router is supported, look under one of the products and System Requirements for the list. There is a free trial too. Terry. Terry. Installed Network Magic Trial, but could not get the Vista computer to connect to the Xp Computer. However, NM help files etc suggested a Registry modification, never before messed with the registry but jumped in both feet and now working fine. Many thanks for mentioning NM Jeff
