I know little about large format printers but from what I have read on the Q Yahoo group and here, is that HP users seem to have to go through loops to overcome HP's driver oddities, or are they bugs. There seems to have been few problems with the other 2 manufacturers. Terry.

Mike's Software / Qimage / Tiff Compression request

Mike, Would it be possible in a future version to have LZW compression available as an option for tiff files please. I think this would be in Convert, Filter Save As and Print to File. Terry.

The constant requirement to rejoin the group on yahoo is so bad I don't have that problem but Yahoo only keeps you signed in for a limited period: 2 weeks but you need to tick the box on sign in. The other possibility is that you are blocking cookies from Yahoo. Terry.

We do also need to say that you can use the existing ICC profiles when using pigment inks (as with your printer) and that new ICC profiles will only really be needed for dye ink use. As I read it, new profiles for dye ink printers only; pigment inks profiles stay as they are, eg. R800/1800 so you, like me, can relax. Terry.

Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: Document orientation change in Cropping page

Jim, Excellent response and I appreciate it. Thanks for the work-a-rounds Glad to help. The suggestions are not so much work-a-rounds but ways to use Qimage. That's not to say I don't agree with your request Now, I will try to remember that I can sort the list of files by orientation before adding them to the queue, but that presents another problem. What if I have two or more pictures of the same subject some horizontal some vertical. Here is how I sorted out 20 images from a batch of a 100+ I took on Tuesday. I went through the images and rated them using the Qimage facility, 5 for the best, 4 for quite good and 3 for maybe. I then pre-sorted by rating (View menu again). The 5's were then at the top of the thumb list, 4's & 3's below etc. Some shots were vertical and when I also sorted by orientation, shots of the same rating were together with the vertical ones first, followed the horizontal ones. That technique should work for you too. Don't forget that you can use the P+ button for previewing, rating and adding to the queue. All the features are there to assist you in sorting out a batch of images. Terry.

Jim, I think I understand what you are doing but a bit more detail of your whole job would be helpful as there may already be an existing feature in Qimage that can be used. Eg. are you doing one image per page & filling it or multiples per page? But an answer to your direct question is: One way to make this easier and quicker is to go through the queue in the FPE and deal with the images that are the right way up. Then change the page orientation & go through again to do the rest.
Terry.

Technical Discussions / Printer Media / Re: B&W prints. Are they your cup of tea?

Hi Fred, I agree with your comment: I really never got to embrace the love that some of you have for B&W prints. I have to be honest. I see in color, and my prints should echo what I see. No? I also realize that there are some scenes/faces that actually look better (mood enhancement, I guess) in B&W. The faces seem to hold some inner memories which adding color just diminishes I do dabble with B&W on my R800 now and again. My photo club has a regular "monochrome" competition so I'm always keen to have a go with the enthusiasts. Like you, I use the one of the Qimage Select Color filters, usually with a curve to modify the contrast and extra USM. My usual papers are Ilford Smooth Pearl & Gloss and I have custom (not Ilford) profiles. I have found that, to my eye (perhaps I should ask my ealge eye lady too), Smooth pearl is closer to neutral; Gloss is a little "warm". I prefer the finish of the Pearl paper too. I have Epson Archival matt and their profile and that is quite acceptable. I once tried a sample of Ilford Smooth Gold, very expensive with a warm base colour. Nice result but really too thick for my printer, I had to use the thick envelope setting for it to go through. Terry.

Mike, If I elect to keep v262 for now, and no problems occur, are there significant advantages/improvements with the later version of lcms.dll? Terry.
