1) Sounds like your lcms.dll file has become corrupted. Use Explorer to delete lcms.dll from your \program files\qimage folder (or wherever you have Qimage installed) and reinstall the latest version. Now sorted, thanks. (2) I'm not able to replicate any problem like that here. Are you doing anything else other than a cutout? Attached is batch screen image. Edit, have now attached resulting e-mail copy. Terry

Mike's Software / Qimage / Two problems
|

Mike, I've come across 2 problems today. 1. When I convert an image and check to convert to another colour space, I get an error message "I/O Error 6". The process has to be cancelled; a new image is produced but with very muted colours. I rebooted but the problem persisted. If no colour space conversion is done, there is no problem.
2. If I use a cutout-frame filter on an image and make an e-mail copy, the frame is applied twice. Eg. if it's a drop shadow, the result is 2 drop shadows, one outside the other. The full screen view is ok. If the image is converted, then all is ok too, just one frame.
Terry.

I had a very quick reply from Ilford Thank you for your email and your interest in ILFORD products. As a result of the successful launch of Galerie Smooth we have had a high demand for profiles and we are working to clear the backlog. We do also need to say that you can use the existing ICC profiles when using pigment inks (as with your printer) and that new ICC profiles will only really be needed for dye ink use. Kind regards

Mike's Software / Qimage / Copying IPTC Data
|
on: June 19, 2009, 12:19:05 PM
|
Mike, I don't use IPTC data very often so need a bit of advice. When I select a number of thumbnails and add IPTC data to the first, click Next, I'm asked if I want to copy the data to the "Current" or "All" images; that's fine.
When I have entered some IPTC data on some images and now want to copy it to other images at a later stage, so I select all the thumbs including the one with IPTC data, (the one with data has to first in the list) but clicking next does not invoke the copy dialogue unless an edit is made. Is there another way of going about this copying and what if the image with IPTC data is not first in the list of those selected? Terry.

Fred, The e-mail also said Don't forget that FREE ICC profiles are available for you to download for all the latest inkjet printers. When you go the download page it also says to check you are using the correct profile and gives info' on how to recognise the new paper from the boxes. However, I downloaded a profile for my R800 and there was only the one, which seemed to be the old one. I'll see if I can e-mail Ilford later an get some clarification. Terry

Mike's Software / Qimage / Q-SE RAW Noise Reduction on DNG files from a Scanner
|
on: June 18, 2009, 01:12:59 PM
|
Mike, I've been scanning some old slides on a flat-bed with VueScan and with an output of DNG-Tif files. The idea being that I can make use of the Q-SE raw image processing features on these files, including noise reduction for the film grain. I was wondering how Noise Reduction works in this situation as there is no ISO value associated with the image. I cannot see any change to the image whatever the NR setting is used in the preferences. Perhaps I'm on the wrong tack altogether! EDIT: just to clarify, VueScan calls them Tiff DNG format and they have a .dng extension. Qimage reads them as a raw file and refine etc. works.
Terry.

Just upgrading to Qimage "Studio" and without introducing too many extra steps in my workflow? How about reducing the steps in your workflow? I suggest you try using Qimage for your raw processing and print from raw now that you have Studio. Don't be put off by the simplicity of the minimal adjustments compared to LR. You may just wish you'd not spent the money on LR and got Qimage SE sooner Oh, and it's worth the few extra $ to buy a camera profile for Q raw processing. Terry.

But, with my current set up, I've got IS and can go to 200mm with it, It is a pity no one makes a stabilised macro lens, perhaps there's a technical reason. I know that the Sigma 150mm macro goes for around $729, expensive Sigma also make a less expensive 105mm macro lens which would be better from the hand holding point of view. The very close bug picture shown was at 300mm and it was very difficult to frame and focus; with 150 mm it is much easier so I wonder if a combination of that with a +4D close-up lens would work better. I get definite chromatic aberration with the +4D simple lens, that's why the Canon 2-element item may be much better. Terry.
