31  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Job Save with Matte on: April 16, 2020, 01:37:10 PM
Thanks, Fred, that might be the best solution.  But I'm running into a problem when I attempt successive attempts to replace the picture.  The program seems to be stalling when dragging a different thumb for a new print.  I'll have to play with this more later.

I see one also has to drag the thumb to the image name in the Queue tab, and not just anywhere in that tab.  No big deal.

I'll get back later, and thanks again, as usual.

[EDIT]  I resolved the stalling issue.  I actually have to print an image before replacing it.  heh-heh.  Just printing to file until I'm ready to start a batch of prints.  (Where's the embarrassed emoji when editing a post?)
32  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Job Save with Matte on: April 15, 2020, 08:09:56 PM
I frequently print images to fit in 7.5in x 9.5in "frames" to populate two separate photo frame room dividers.  The individual frames are not exactly the same size (if I'd made it, I'd call it "craftsman style"! <g>).  I want the prints to have the same basic look, a thin black border (.10), a thinner white border (.05), and a thicker black matte (.35in).  The inner and outer borders are set to shrink the image, as is the matte.  (I end up with an 8x10 print which mostly fit snugly inside the "frames".)

I can save the job with the two borders, but I can't figure out how to save the job with the matte; for each picture, I have to add it back in.  Is there a way to save the entire layout including the matte?  If so, how?

33  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Have problems using "Send to Qimage" in Windows 10 on: September 28, 2019, 07:04:56 PM
I'm still having the same problem, currently running v2020.100.  I've followed Terry's suggestion, different sequences, and tinkered with other settings, but I still get the thumbnail instead of a queued image.  In the attached screenshot, QU shows the info for a 16.5 x 10.5 print.  Clicking on the thumb does nothing (unless I click the X  Wink ).

The behavior is the same if opening the image in QU via either FastStone or Windows Send-to.

Any and all ideas welcome.
34  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Have problems using "Send to Qimage" in Windows 10 on: September 01, 2019, 12:37:13 AM
I've noticed something kinda-sorta similar.  Maybe exactly the same.  Attached screenshot is from "Send to" "Qimage Ultimate", but I get the exact same behavior when I open the image via my host editor, which is FastStone Image Viewer.  (I also use Affinity Photo and Topaz Studio 1 & 2, but they can't send directly to QU.)
In both cases, I have to click on the small image, then select a print size from the "Prints" tab.
FWIW, I tried Unlocking/Re-Locking the startup session setting, but that didn't do anything.

Hi George
Quote
When I tweak an image with the full page editor, where are those settings stored?
I assume you mean by double clicking to open the IMAGE editor.
Those files are stored in the same folder as the image and are .flt (filter) files.
Terry

No wonder I couldn't find them!   Grin  Hidden in plain sight?  And logically, I first looked for them in C:\ProgramData\ddisoftware\Qimage\Filters -- they're a filter.

And yes.  For some reason I call the Image Editor (Ctrl-Alt-F or double-click) the full page editor, as opposed to the Edit Page editor (Ctrl-E).

Thanks Terry.

Good morning (at least here in the Pacific Northwest),

When I tweak an image with the full page editor, where are those settings stored?  I can find jobs and similar, but nothing that looks like it has the edit settings.

Thanks.

-<snip>-

The above verbal description is basically backwards.  If you swap his two verbal descriptions and remove the "Moves them all relative" statement, it'd be basically correct.  The point being, perceptual scales all colors, even those that are in-gamut which can have an overall dulling (desaturation) effect even on colors that could have been reproduced accurately (are in-gamut).  Unlike perceptual, relative colorimetric renders in-gamut colors correctly and doesn't move them and only moves out-of-gamut colors inward... generally to the gamut hull, that is, the closest color that CAN be reproduced.  This is why RC is often recommended: because many images won't contain out-of-gamut colors or at least few out-of-gamut colors and with RC, you know the colors that can be reproduced will be reproduced accurately rather than being "dulled" via scaling.

Mike

My brain just hit a speed bump.  It sounds like you're suggesting that RC is a better intent to use in most cases, but the "Color Management" dialogue in QU shows Perceptual as the default.  I understand that factors such as image source, editing process, final output/media can contribute to choosing between RC & PC.  So my question is:  why did you choose PC as the default over RC?

From looking at the specs, it looks like opRGB = Adobe RGB.

Mike

Yes, I found this at color.org relating to opRGB:  "Chromaticity co-ordinates of primaries:  ... Note: these are the same as Adobe RGB (1998). "

But searching for opRGB.icm or .icc doesn't yield anything use.

One of the sources I came across yesterday indicated that AdobeRGB in Nikon NEF files probably didn't play well with various converters/editors.  Which I've heard before (since 2013).  But these images started life as Olympus raw (.ORF), so maybe they have the same problem as Nikon raw files.

On my todo list is to get the ICC to clarify all this.  I'll let y'all know how that turns out.

It is probably embedded in the image.
When you read the profile on the hotbar, does it have asterisks before and after the name?
Some programs may not accept that color space.
Run a convert in Qimage that will make a new tif or jpg and allow QU to reprofile to the standard RGB. Then it should open in the other programs.
Fred

Magic!  It took me a few seconds to work out how to include the path for opRGB, since (in my mind) it doesn't exist.  I just typed in opRGB without a file path.  The conversion opens up fine in all the other.

The asterisks didn't register in my mind because all of my images, except raw, have starred ICCs.

Thanks, Fred, as always, you came through.  (But if you ever find out where it comes from, let me know!  Wink )

I did that yesterday, over an hours worth of searching and reading.  Same results as your link (although, now my posting to the Paint.NET forum shows up!).  Nothing to explain where it came from.

My question is:  if there is no opRGB.icc/icm on my computer, why does it show up in Qimage?  (Oops, and my other question.)  And why does the image show up in QU and FastStone, but not in any other apps I have?

42  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / opRGB on: January 02, 2019, 05:41:29 PM
I cobbled together an image for printing, and in Qimage I noticed that the ICC showed as "opRGB".  The image printed perfectly fine.  But I was curious about the profile.  I couldn't find anything understandable (to me  Wink ) online.  And there is no ICC/ICM with opRGB in the name anywhere on my computer.

By cobbled I mean that there were 4 images from different workflows, laid out in Paint.NET for printing.  All were AdobeRGB 1998, all TIFF but I think maybe one or two were converted from JPEG.  This is a one-off quickie, I realize the workflow is wrong (not normal workflow) and likely contributed to and/or caused the strange ICC profile.

With the image programs I have, it can only be viewed in QU and FastStone; it is either "corrupted" or "unsupported" or similar in Irfanview, Nikon View NXi, Affinity Photo, Olympus Viewer 3, a couple of others.

As I said, the print turned out very nice, it's saved as a job (highly unlikely to ever be re-printed).  I'm simply curious as to what opRGB is and where it came from, and why with my amazing and world-renowned internet searching skills I couldn't find anything helpful.

There was that close comet fly-by recently...

43  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Spacing of multiple images on one sheet... on: December 09, 2018, 06:00:58 AM
I haven't actually tested this by making a print my PRO-100, but visually in QU it looks like if I turn on Borderless printing in the driver, I get a small white space around all of the prints, and the prints don't seem to be bleeding off any edges.  Using IntelliSpace (a couple of other spacing options also seem to work).  This may not work with any other printer.  And of course there may be other problems with this option that I'm not seeing.  When I get a chance I 'll test this theory.

44  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Adding Border to Print Job on: October 11, 2018, 07:55:29 PM
Thanks for the quick reply, Mike.  But for a couple of very odd reasons this wouldn't work, as it's like I'm trying to fit a round peg in a square hole, kinda-sorta.  (The prints need to fit a 8x10 holder with an uneven 3/16-in+ inside border, and enl finding a satisfactory cropping for this image is not easy; yadda-yadda-yadda.)

Howsomever, that made me remember PHOTO MATS.  I was able to add a .25 mat all around while shrinking the image using mats, so all is good.

I just really hope this is a one-off!  Smiley  If not, I'll trying adding a border before cropping and resizing (I think that's what you're suggesting.)

Thanks again,

45  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Adding Border to Print Job on: October 11, 2018, 06:35:43 PM
Version 2018.126.

I saved a JOB last night, ready to print except no borders.  When I recalled it today, and tried to add a black border, the image was rotated 90 deg. and un-cropped.  In fact, all I did was erase the 0 in the BORDERS box in order to change it, as seen in Scr 02.

The same thing happened when I tried to change the border size using the BORDERS box on the PRINTS tab.

Am I doing something wrong, or is something broken?
