Fred,

I would be interested in knowing what your method might be. The only solution I have come up with is to make my paper size 24x36 and put multiple new layouts in it with text for each template. It might be difficult to line everything up precisely. I can't seem to place the multiple 8x10's that Terry suggested onto to a roll paper. I might be missing something but just can't seem to get it. Anyway, you said you might have a different approach. Thanks,

Mike

Sorry, not sure why but only one picture posted.

The layout on the att. picture is close to what I want but I can't seem to get the layout in each 8x10 on the page. The layout will look like the layout on the prev. picture I attached. The layout is in #2, the rest are the pages in the driver. Main, page setup, and layout. Under the 2x2 in layout there are a bunch of selections like 4x4, etc. I tried that but it didn't work too good. Any more ideas? Thanks for your patience. It just seems you should be able to place multiple layouts on a large page size. I just can't seem to get my head around it.

Thanks,

Mike

The size of the card is 8-1/2 x 5-1/4. The picture size on the right is 4x5. The text is on the left. When I fold the card the picture is on the front and the text on the bottom of the back. I have a Canon 6300 printer. In the drive I select roll print, 24" wide, and the custom size is 24 x any length I want. I chose 36" so it would be easy to cut and handle after the print. I've attached my Qimage screen with the one layout on the 24x36 page. I know I'm missing something simple. I'd like to drop 6 or 9 more on the page (whatever fits). Thanks,

Mike

When I define a size in the driver (24x36) I can only place one layout per page size. If I make the page size 8x10 (the card) in the driver there is only room for one card on the page layout. What I was looking for was to place duplicate layouts on the 24x36. I guess I'll have to place something like 9 cards on a sheet in a template and put the text on each one and then save the whole thing as a layout. If that makes sense. Unless there is someway to duplicate the layouts on a larger sheet.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi,

Last year Terry helped me through doing a layout for some Christmas cards where I put a picture and text on the front, some text on the inside, and a credit line on the back. I ran the card thru the printer for one side and then flipped it to do the other side. I used an Epson 2200. It took me some time to figure out, but with his patience all went well.

My problem this year is I have a new 24" printer and would like to take the same layouts and change the text (this should be no problem) and put multiple layouts on a page so I can print them on 24" wide paper. I would make the page size 24 wide x ?? long and would like to drop 10-12 layouts on the page and then drop pictures into each layout. Is this possible? I can't seem to figure out how to drop multiple layouts on one page size. Thanks for any info.

I just purchased Ultimate so I would be doing it in that environment.

I don't know why but it just occurred to me, what does everyone do. Do they make the print 11-1/4 x 14-1/4 so it fits under an 11 x 14 opening in the mat, or do they make the print 11x14 and then make the opening 10-1/4 x 13-1/4? When you buy precut mats how are the openings sized? I generally cut my own mats so I've never had much of an issue with this. I generally print to the even sizes (i.e. 11 x 14) and make the openings on the mat the appropriate size. What is the acceptable practice?

It would be repeats of the same layout and then populated with the same or possibly a different picture. The roll is 24" wide and the length could be arbitrary. The purpose of doing it that way is to print multiple layouts on the roll. I just picked 36" because I thought I could then put about 9 layouts per page (or whatever would fit). They could just as well be 24 wide x 12 long and let the printer cut them off 3 layouts at a time. I just couldn't figure out how to put multiple layouts on a page.
39  Mike's Software / Qimage / More than 1 layout per page? on: June 13, 2010, 11:53:29 AM
Last year Terry helped me create some Christmas card layouts. I recently got a wide format printer and I was wondering if I create a page size of 24 x 36 (or 48 or any other length) how can I put more than one layout on that page. In other words print a bunch of cards at one time on roll paper. The card size is about 5 x 8 with a picture on the front and printing on the inside when folded. Any ideas. In the past I had to run the paper through twice to get the printing and pictures on the front, back, and inside but I would  eliminate one of these if I can put more than one layout on the page. Any ideas?

I feel exactly the same way. I have a new computer system with a new Canon 6300 printer. Both monitor and paper/printer have been profiled with a new Colormunki.  If i softproof in CNX2 or Qimage the softproofs always look washed out. The prints themselves really look nice. I have just learned to ignore softproofing and it save a bunch of time and frustration.

I use NX2 as my main photo software. It doesn't change the original NEF in any way at all. It just adds edit steps which are completely reversible. The NEFs are never changed.

Don't mean to butt in on this thread, but probably the best (from a quality standpoint) raw processor for NEF files is Capture NX2. It also has the ability to do local changes on the picture as well as global so in this case you could change the exposure or brightness, contrast, hue, saturation or anything else on the sky or the foreground seperately. they use control points and selection points to easily pick different areas of the pictures.

Thanks a bunch - I just got a new ipf6300 printer and am running paper all over the floor learning how to use Qimage with the driver and Capture NX. I thought it might be fun to try some cutouts because I have some extra real estate now. It is a lot of fun and a couple of the prints are spectacular. I need to learn more about sizing the pictures on 24" roll paper and how to make the cutter work correctly, but WOW is this nice.

Terry was very helpful (and patient) last fall when I was trying to make some templates for Christmas cards. You guys are an invaluable resource.

I have been looking at the 3880 for some time but I do like to do panos. After a lot of research I have been seriously looking at Canon ipf5100 and it looks like a really good printer, although a little on the large size. It does roll, front and top feed. Lots of good paper sizes. Price is around 1450 us dollars. Does anyone have an opinion??

Probably  should be a different subject, but is there anywhere to research what kind of papers do certain types of photos the best? ie, Black & White look good on Ilford (Hanamuhle, Epson, etc) Color landscape on luster, semi- gloss, or matte? There just seem to be so many choices a guy could go broke just getting samples and profiles to do any of it some justice. Any ideas?
